This morning Melinda took a small group of older Wee Friends outside and planted lily-of-the-valley bulbs! The kids dug the holes, inserted the bulbs and covered them with dirt. Using the puffed up pellets that Paulina Amy C. and the Wee Wees started yesterday, Melinda invited friends to plant vegetable seeds. So far, they’ve planted broccoli, yellow squash, zucchini, sunflowers, cucumbers and yellow tomatoes. F.3.1 Participate in activities using materials with a variety of properties (e.g., color, shape, size, name, type of material). F.3.4 Investigate the physical surroundings by digging in dirt, collecting and classifying rocks, recognizing changes in weather.
Tami led a group of 6 toddlers in creating water color art. They were mostly interested in how the water changed colors when they rinsed their brushes! F.2.16 Demonstrate increasing skill in using different art materials. (e.g., paper, paint, clay, scraps, buttons) F.2.18 Develop growing ability to plan, work independently, and demonstrate care and persistence in a variety of art projects.
Throughout the day, we have been singing a Wee Friends version of “Wheels on the Bus”. It goes like this: “When Stephen’s on the bus he sings S, S, S …. S, S, S …. S, S, S….When Stephen’s on the bus he sings S, S, S, S.T.E.P.H.E.N!” We’ve been discovering which letter of the alphabet our names begin with. It’s exciting to hear many of the toddlers shout out their letter and sing along! F.1.15 Match the sound that begins own name with the sound that begins another word or name.
