We honed in on math FABS today. Lisa offered friends a basket filled with plastic skulls, spiders, pumpkins, snakes and mini-cauldrons. Using ice cube trays as a graph, they counted, sorted, identified more and less, one/many and counted up to ten objects. Some friends wrote the numbers on paper. Math FABS: K.1.7 – Find the number that is one more than or one less than any whole number up to 10. K.1.6 – Count, recognize, represent, name and order a number of objects (up to 10). K.1.8 – Use correctly the words one/many, none/some/all, more/less and most/least.
Elizabeth and Sophie built a long road that led to a castle.
Typically, Aislinn and Owen begin their day bonding over Magna-Tiles, Trios or other building/counting materials.
Max and Elliott spent much of their morning work time designing 3D creations.
Another example of great math work happening through play: Marina led her friends as they sorted, stacked and organized familiar household materials. And then they worked on their laptops.
How do work on math at your house?
