Mom to Sophie: “Trees make paper!”

Sophie to Sloane: “Did you know trees make paper? My mom told me.”

Sloane to Melinda: “ Melinda! Did you know trees make paper?”

Elizabeth: “I knew that! I saw it on Cat in the Hat!”

Melinda: “Would you like to MAKE paper?”

Emma: “Me too! Me too!”

We explored textures of different paper and we took turns chopping soft wood to use to create new paper.

The lifecycles of ideas in child initiated learning environment are not conventional. They last as long as our friends have interest.  Our friends have expressed great excitement in the scientific sensory exploration of paper making. They stopped being interested in the jungle.

And then came the Titanic.
