*Look for your scheduled conference time attached to your child’s daily sheet today!
Today has been a busy today full of exploration. Much of our morning was spent working with a variety of puzzles. Our environment has puzzles that are appropriate for all developmental levels, from simple wooden peg puzzles, more challenging foam puzzles and complicated 100+ piece puzzles. No matter where children are at in their ability to complete puzzles, there is a puzzle for them!
Completing puzzles often becomes a group activity. Friends enjoy watching each other work and offer tips—“That piece goes there!”
We also got out the unifix cubes today. Friends used them to create a variety of patterns and count (great for working on one-to-one correspondence). They were especially excited when they filled up the entire unifix counting board!
Best of all, we got outside today! Friends were very excited to spend some time outdoors in the fresh air.
Kindergarten: Each day, our kindergarteners work on their writing and reading skills through the practice of journaling. After drawing a picture, they write a word or sentence to describe their work. Using kid-spelling during this process helps them to develop a deep understanding of how language works.
For example, today Elliott drew a rocket and wanted to write the word rocket as well. He heard two parts of the word, “roc” and “ket”. While spelling the complete word Elliott noticed, “Roc [rock] is a real word, but you have to put ‘ket’ with it because otherwise ‘ket’ is a nonsense word!” It’s a treat watching friends discover language in their own way.
Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Toasted whole wheat bagels with butter and fresh apple slices. Lunch: Whole wheat pasta with black beans, tomatoes and apples. Snack: Organic whole milk yogurt and bananas.
