Good Afternoon!

The welcome activity this morning was the category game! Within the game, there are multiple category cards. We use these cards to sort various items. For example, there is a refrigerator in the category game. As a group, we determined that it goes in the ‘household’ category. Children talked about the attributes of each object and to what category it belongs.

K.DA.1: Identify, sort, and classify objects by size, number, and other attributes. Identify objects that do not belong to a particular group and explain the reasoning used.

Another game we played was the mystery game. We put a variety of items in the box including animals, cups, and cars. Only using our sense of touch, we felt a specific item within the box before pulling it out to show the whole group. As children felt different items, they used descriptive words such as hard, soft, smooth, bumpy, small, etc. to explain what they were feeling. Based on these descriptive words, they guessed what they were feeling.

The sensory bin was occupied all morning with friends coming and going from the art table as well. Envelopes and labels were used to enhance our creations. One of our friends could be heard saying, “I’m trying to concentrate on my creation.”

In large group, we focused our time on fairytales by reading ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Before we started reading, I told the group that there are many different variations of how fairytales are told. For example, we have two ‘Beauty and the Beast’ versions and they don’t follow the same storyline completely. A friend shared that fairytales aren’t real and they’re made up!

After we read the story, we talked about the characters in the story. The beast was a big topic of conversation as we discussed whether or not there could be a beast in real life. I mentioned that in fairytales, we see characters like this: dragons, dwarves, fairies, and witches.

During journaling, Jackson drew a triangle and said it was the beginning of his house. I mentioned that the Indians used to live in a house like that called a teepee. I pulled up several pictures so that we could see what Indians used to call home. “Is there a fire in there?!”, asked one friend. I explained that it was actually a house for people! Teepee’s are NOT what our houses look like today so it was a challenging concept to grasp Smile.

Breakfast– Kashi Blueberry Clusters and blueberries.

Lunch– Organic, brown rice with shredded beef, PPC kiwi/strawberries, and PPC broccoli.

PM snack– Sunflower seeds and whole wheat crackers.

Wee Sprout– Peppers.
