Good Afternoon!
The welcome activity involved pegs and peg boards. Several children sat down to interact with the activity in various ways. Lucy created a pattern specific to colors while Lulu filled up both yellow foam boards. Once they were filled, she counted each row that had ten pegs. After, she started counting by 10’s and came to the conclusion that there were 50 pegs in all.
K.NS.4: Perform one-to-one correspondence tasks.
K.NS.5: Count up to 20 objects arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle. Count up to 10 objects in a scattered configuration.
Teamwork: the combined action of a group of people, especially when effective and efficient.
The letter matching box was put on the circle table this morning and many children flocked to it. Our kindergarten friends and older preschoolers practiced identifying every letter, uppercase and lowercase. A couple younger friends were very interested in the activity so they worked on identifying letters that they were familiar with (letters in their name, etc.).
K.RF.2.4: Identify and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
In large group, we read ‘Elmer and the Kangaroo’. Throughout the story, we paid attention to the animals in the story. Afterwards, we listed the animals and figured out how many syllables were in each animal word.
Looking at the list, we figured out that there were no animals with one or four syllables while most of the animal words had two syllables.
K.RF.3.2: Orally segment words into syllables.
