Good Afternoon!

In large group, we read ‘Three Hens and a Peacock’. By looking at the cover and our background knowledge of books, we created a web that was filled with our predictions as to what could possibly take place in this story. While I was reading the first page, Maxwell commented, “Our prediction was right: there’s cars, trucks, and people!”

Many large group friends wrote about their journals today. Our journals focused on several topics such as ‘boat treasure boat shot’ and ‘people on flying carpets’. With a little assistance, children used their kid spelling to express what they had drawn.

K.RL.2.4: Make predictions about what will happen in a story.

The welcome activity focused on comparing lengths of various items by using cubes. This measurement activity was able to meet different readiness levels.

For children who were ready for the foundational skill of this activity, they used their one to one correspondence skills to put a cube on each space. Several comments such as “The pencil is longer than the snake!”, were made once they realized they used more cubes for the pencil compared to the snake.

A few older friends took this activity one step further. Lulu and Lucy brought patterns into the equation without prompt. Lucy used her cubes and integrated an ABAB pattern while assessing the length of the items while Lulu used an AABB pattern.

K.M.1: Make direction comparisons of the length, capacity, weight and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, coolor, or holds more.

One of the amazing things about our morning structure is that it allows for flexibility. Maddie’s aunt is coming to visit her and she really wanted to make her a card. So, we headed to the art table so that she could do just that! Of course when this started, several friends joined her to make a card for a family member too! We had no envelopes so when Maddie finished, we made our own envelopes!

Miss Rebekah used our friends helpful hands to help season the pumpkin seeds from the pumpkin that was carved yesterday. After they cooled down, we got to taste them before heading outside. YUM!
