* There was a server problem with the program and wouldn’t send. Here is the blog from Friday. Hope everyone had a great weekend and stayed warm!

Good Afternoon!

This morning we turned a sensory experience into an art activity. We started out exploring with shaving cream, then added some glitter to it to make it sparkle like fresh snow. We then were given a piece of construction paper to make hand prints in the snow.

DSCN7294DSCN7295DSCN7297DSCN7296

We brought out our flannel board Christmas tree. We added flannel mittens, circles and hearts. The children showed their creative skills as they decorated it. Miss Marty prompted our friends to use their self help skills to use “teamwork” to clean up all the felt ornaments and place them into the baggie. Mack and Sophia were very excited and both shouted, TEAMWORK!

DSCN7300DSCN7302DSCN7308

We also were busy going down the slide on our backs or walking up like a bear and playing with the balls in the habitrail area.

Happy Friday!

**With snow on the way, please make sure you’re adhering to the parking rules. If you plan to be here for more than ten minutes at either drop off or pick up, please park in the parking lot or the parking pad on the side of the house if it’s available. Also, make sure that you’re only parking in front of our two houses. If there isn’t space, the parking lot provides a great opportunity to talk to your child about their day! Thank you for everyone’s cooperation.

Lulu received help from Grady and Lucy to create a rainbow pattern using the pegs and peg board this morning. Lulu said, “I already have seven orange pegs so I need three more.”

Miss Melinda read ‘Mortimer’ by Robert Munsch and after, friends headed to the piano to see if they could imitate a part of the story. The main character in the story sings, “Clang, clang, rattle bang bang. Gonna make my noise all day!”. When it’s read, it’s supposed to be read in a loud voice so children tried to play the piano in higher keys while singing the song.

Our pre-k/k group children are continuing to gain knowledge of consonants and vowels during journal time. The imaginations and thoughts of every child can be seen on the journal page each day. Today, we saw a couple volcanos, a few rainbows, and tons of original thoughts.

Good Afternoon!

We started our morning with a sensory activity. We used our scoops to fill our containers with corn and beans.

As we were playing on the habitrail, we climbed up the ladder and bent over the top rung to touch the carpet to work on our head stands.

We enjoyed exploring our musical instruments and hearing the different sounds they make.  We sang the song Jingle Bells as we shook our shaker with the bells.

Good Afternoon!

Hopefully we won’t have to enforce the closing policy for weather this winter but just as a reminder, I’m attaching the policy that we follow. Please make sure that you’re signed up for the texting alert that Tami will send out in the morning if we have to delay/close.

Inclement Weather/ Emergency Closing Policy

We ask each family to sign up for text notification for immediate communication of important or emergency information (closings, etc.). All weather related closings will be announced via this text service.  Be on the lookout for text communication if South Bend or School City of Mishawaka is closed or delayed as I will send confirmation that we are open or if we are delayed/closed.

Good Afternoon!

Mack and Sophia were in the housekeeping area playing with the babies. They decided to expand their imaginations and take them for a walk around the table.

DSCN7161DSCN7162

Miss Rebekah made some sugar water chalk for us to use to draw our pictures. The colors are more vibrant and the chalk is dust free on our papers. We really enjoyed exploring this new drawing utensil experience.

Mack and Sophia were working on their yoga downward dog pose. This pose will help us with our summersaults.

Good Afternoon!

**As most of you know, we have an icky cold/cough/fever bug going around. We’re doing a vigilant effort of cleaning and sanitizing around the classroom. As a reminder, here is our illness policy: https://www.weefriendskids.com/handbook-policies/

This week, we’ve been talking about the differences between a globe and a map as well as identifying the different things we see on each. Children took blue and green tissue paper squares to create their own globe. We talked about how the blue on the globe represents water and the green represents land. Maddie commented, “I’m going to make my globe have water on the outside and land on the inside.”

Social Studies: K.3.2: Identify maps and globes as ways of representing Earth and understand differences between a map/globe.

DSCN1908DSCN1918

After Maddie and Lulu made their globe at the art table, they tackled the new globe puzzle that we got. This puzzle is a little different than the ones we have because the inside pieces are not like normal puzzle pieces. It provides a great challenge!

A few children requested the light table this morning. We explored various items including rocks, shells, and gems. Lucy and Anna sorted them by different characteristics before Anna announced, “Now we’re going to make a pattern!”

Good Afternoon!

The application that creates the photo link was not working this afternoon.  I’ll try to post the photo album tomorrow!

This morning we all spent some time looking at our books.

While Sophia was visiting the other classroom, Mack was the only child awake. So he requested puzzles and play dough. He worked on his fine motor skills with both activities putting his pieces into his puzzle board and placing the golf tees into his play dough.

A poinsettia was used for a still-life drawing at the art table this morning. Children had the choice to use various mediums including crayons, colored pencils, and water color. We used red, green, and brown to express our view of the poinsettia.

As children were drawing or painting the plant, we used our nose to smell it and our fingers to touch it. A six year old friend commented, “I’m drawing this abstract.”

Good Afternoon!

Miss Melinda and a group of children interacted with a ‘season’ game this morning where we had to decided if an item went in the ‘spring’, ‘summer’, ‘fall’, or ‘winter’ box. When a turkey came up, one of our two year old friends said, “I go to the barn to see them!”

DSCN1768DSCN1771

Several art materials were made available at the art table this morning including feathers, colored wooden sticks, cardboard tubes, and a seasonal item: wrapping paper! At first, children used the wrapping paper to create a collage but after a while, friends started to incorporate various other materials into their projects.

DSCN1781DSCN1783

Maxwell and Grady used toy cars as a manipulative to solve addition and subtraction problems.

M: “Grady, here are the cars. I’m going to take one away. How many are there?”

(Grady counts using his one to one correspondence skills): “There’s seven!”

M: “Okay, now I’m going to take another one away. How many do I have left?”

(Grady counts) “Now, there’s six left!”

DSCN1786DSCN1788

We took advantage of the nice morning and headed outside where we patiently waited for the bikes to be made available. It was a great activity for us to get out some energy and work on our ever growing gross motor skills.
