Good Afternoon!

One of the most popular spaces in our environment is the reading area. There are a handful of children who would stay there for the entire day and listen to stories if they had the chance. This is a key building block for language development, reading, and writing (just to name a few). Children not only listen to several stories day in and day out but recognize print throughout the environment whether it’s reading cubby tags or words on the ‘site word’ window. Most of our children recognize letters based on their peers names. We can overhear our three year old friend Franklin say, “Oh that’s a ‘G’! A ‘G’ for Grady!”.

I’ve attached an article that explains the several benefits of not only reading to infants but continuing that trend well past five years of age.
