WF Monday 6/22 Wildlife Encounters

*Vacation Reminder: Wee Friends will be closed for Independence Day and Summer Break from Thursday July 2nd through Friday July 10th. We will reopen on Monday July 13th.

At Wee Friends we love learning about nature and the natural world that surrounds us. We incorporate nature into the classroom through projects such as raising caterpillars into butterflies. Our caterpillars started forming their chrysalis over the weekend:

But at other times, nature brings the learning experiences to us! This afternoon a baby blue bird made its way into our backyard, chirping loudly and hopping from object to object. It was an instant source of fascination for Wee Frienders.

Melinda put on gloves and helped move the bird outside our backyard, where hopefully its mother would feel more comfortable coming to get it. Owen and Elliott fed the bird a worm they found!

Once we closed the gate, however, the bird came hopping right back!

We seem to have found a new friend.

Hello!

Imagination was the name of the game today!

“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create.”
Maria Montessori

A few friends gathered in the housekeeping area where breakfast was prepared! Eggs were suggested by a friend so eggs were whipped up! Of course a little cheese was added.

Maddie and a few friends took all of the animals and lined them up in a row, starting with the biggest animals. Different animals noises could be heard throughout the house!

The white tiles have been a big hit this week. Children are creating different structures with the blocks, all special and unique.

Ellie was SUPER happy today as she lost her first tooth Smile.

We got our hands deep in the sensory tubs as sand and bird seed were available this morning. A couple kids took it upon themselves to collect all of the big black seeds from the bird seed. First, they put them all into a pile and then one by one, they placed them into a cup. Sorting at its best!

Good Afternoon!

Friends headed outside this morning where a few friends headed straight to the sandbox. David enjoyed crawling around the backyard, exploring as much as he could! Maya and Nahla used shovels in the log house to transfer rocks to various parts of the play area.

Rosemary piled up rocks in the play truck. She pushed the truck around the path before dumping out the rocks just to gather new ones!

Anna and Annabelle joined one another in the gross motor area where Annabelle beamed with pride as she stood up all by herself!

WF Wednesday 6/17

Today has been full of exciting experiences. We brought out some activities we haven’t done in a while, like the parachute. First, we tried to keep one playground ball on the parachute. After we mastered that, we upped it to two balls! Giggles and laughs all around the circle.

036

Next, friends took turns running under. Friends from WWF enjoyed participating too!

A surprise source of entertainment and interest was a work crew cutting down a tree in the backyard behind WF. Friends eagerly watched as a large crane took a worker up and down. We listened to the chainsaw as it cut branches and the tree shredder as it “ate” up leaves and branches.

The misting rain kept us from going outside this afternoon, but we kept busy with a spin art project. Friends took turns squeezing various colors of paint on a piece of paper in a salad spinner and then spun away! Look for a special Father’s Day project coming home on Friday.

Family. Because Wee Frienders are intimately acquainted with their own families and have a lot of personal knowledge on the subject, family is a topic they are eager to talk about.

Today Owen brought in a special family picture book and shared it with the class. Friends eagerly asked questions about who was in the pictures and some of our younger friends shouted, “Owen!” when they saw a picture of him.
