Happy Friday!

Today was all about the outdoors. With lower numbers, we decided to go on a walk! It was such lovely weather today. We just HAD to take advantage of it Smile.

IMG_8207IMG_8208

After getting our jackets on, we looked at our new flowers out of the window before we left! Eren said, “Wow! They’re beautiful!”

IMG_8209IMG_8210

And…we’re off!

IMG_8213IMG_8214

We were all very relaxed on our walk. Besides seeing numerous cars, squirrels, and birds, we saw a police car! The police officer slowed down to say hi to us. He even turned on his lights so we could see. Friends were steady as a rock as he honked his horn Smile. When we were almost home, we also saw the mail lady! We stopped to say hi.

The outside trend continued once we got back to WWF.

IMG_8227IMG_8233

We love releasing energy.

IMG_8235IMG_8256IMG_8255

Once our bodies started getting tired, we came inside to have lunch! We had eggs with cheese on whole grain english muffins, mixed vegetables, and fresh pears.

IMG_8264

For breakfast, children had kix and banana. Afternoon snack was rice cakes with cream cheese and raisins.

We hope everyone is able to enjoy outside time this weekend! See you Monday!

WWF, 4/10/2014

Hello!

We sure did feel the wind outside this morning. As a rough wind started up, Nora put her hands out so she could feel it!

IMG_8138IMG_8143

As Eren was riding the new balance bikes, he said, “I really like this bike!” Our friends are sure becoming vocal and letting us know how they feel and what they think. (SmileSmileSmile)

IMG_8145IMG_8152

A couple of our friends used chalk this morning. We mostly focused our time at the chalk board. Eren kept trading in his current piece of chalk for a new color!

IMG_8171IMG_8173IMG_8174

For breakfast, children had english muffins with butter along with oranges. Lunch consisted of ham and cheese with whole wheat bread, amazing red peppers, honeydew melon, and strawberries from Purple Porch! We LOVED them! Afternoon snack was pretzels and string cheese.

Have a fantastic night!

Good Afternoon!

It was a lovely, sunny, jam packed morning. Henri enjoyed playing in the kitchen (it’s his favorite spot). Eren read a story to Lucy while other friends listened to a teacher book being read.

IMG_8057IMG_8062

Self regulation at this age is continuing to grow day by day. Maya put her head down on the carpet which let everyone know she was tired Smile. She just needed a quick break before she played a little bit longer before her morning nap.

IMG_8064IMG_8066IMG_8065

It was surprisingly warm this morning. We went out with hats and gloves on but those soon came off!

IMG_8070IMG_8078

We are LOVING the new bikes that Miss Tami got for all of us. Eren and Nora worked diligently this morning on her balance bike. They don’t have any pedals so we have to work really hard at keeping our balance while moving forward!

IMG_8080IMG_8069IMG_8086

Taters explored the backyard some more.

IMG_8095IMG_8102

He found a new hide out: the log house!

IMG_8120IMG_8119

For breakfast, children had malt-o-meal and blueberries. Lunch consisted of whole grain rice with cheese, mixed vegetables, and banana. PM snack was raisins and graham crackers.

From Maya and Tate (and every other WWF), have a GREAT night!

(We love hugs.)

IMPORTANT: Siblings Expectations

Dear Parents,

We would like to communicate some important changes for the beginning of our day and the end of our day transition times. More than any time in the past, we have a large number of older school age siblings entering into both classrooms and WF preschool siblings entering into the WWF classroom.

We have found that the addition of these siblings multiple times each day is disruptive to the peaceful environment that we are trying to cultivate for ALL of the children.

Additionally, we need to note that when your child’s classroom is outside during pick-up times, our indoor classroom is closed (including the habitrail and all interest areas.) AT NO TIMES ARE WF/WWF CHILDREN OR THEIR SIBLINGS ALLOWED TO BE UNSUPERVISED INDOORS WHILE THE GROUP IS OUTDOORS.

We are setting some sibling guidelines that we anticipate will alleviate this.

1. If you are entering our environment with a sibling, please:

a. Keep them by your side in our INSIDE and OUTSIDE environments.

OR

b. Inside WF they can choose to use the bench in the front porch.

c. Inside WWF they can choose the brown chairs in the WWF housekeeping area.

d. Outside, they may choose the deck or a bench.

2. Please do not leave preschool age or younger in the car unsupervised. Please text us or just let us know while you are at the door (where you can see your sibling) and the teaching staff will be happy to ready your child while you are watching at the door.

3. If you have children in both classrooms, we will be happy to let the second classroom know to have your child ready to go for you.

To be clear, we are asking that older siblings not enter into indoor or outdoor play because they do not know our classroom expectations and they create a frenzy of activity during this critical transition time. This will enable our teachers to prepare our WF/WWF’s for a peaceful beginning or end to their day. I appreciate everyone’s cooperation in this.

I am open to other suggestions that you may have to make this transition time smooth for you!

Thanks,

Tami

WF 4/9 Wednesday “What Will Our Garden Grow?”

Wee Friend, Wee Friend, Mighty Mighty Wee Friend,

What will our garden grow?

We began today with this question. We brainstormed and shared what we would like to grow this summer. We read Rah! Rah! Radishes! by April Sayre and Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens. We discussed which veggies grow above the ground and which grow below. Friends planted Plantain Lilies outside. Inside, we set out plastic bins filled with newspaper shreds and water. We imagined it was mud and planted bright colored “seeds” as we explored the gooey, squishy textures.

And we enjoyed the warmth of the sun. We studied the patterns of light created by the sun.

And then we jumped into it and basked it up ON OUR NEW BIKES!

Enjoy your day. –Laurie

Wee Sprouts: Carrots and sweet red peppers. Breakfast: Cheerios and bananas. Lunch: Cheesy brown rice, mixed veggies and bananas. Snack: Pretzels and hummus.

Good Afternoon!

Our friends are loving our new furniture! Thanks Miss Tami! We’re definitely wearing it in Smile.

IMG_7978IMG_7981

As we headed outside, it was a little wet but that didn’t stop us from navigating the backyard like pros!

IMG_7987IMG_7986IMG_7995

Clara and Sloane came up to Tate to say “hi”! Of course, he got many hugs and kisses!

IMG_8002IMG_8007

IMG_8013IMG_8006

Henri enjoyed reading a book. He was laughing as he flipped the pages. Must have been a funny book! Smile

IMG_8019IMG_8026IMG_8025

As friends were getting up from nap, they tested out our new hammock! It’s lower to the ground which is great for our friends!

IMG_8021IMG_8022

For breakfast, children had toast with butter and cinnamon along with oranges. Lunch consisted of cheese filled flatbread sandwiches, mango, and cucumbers. PM snack was hard boiled eggs and crackers.

IMG_8035IMG_8036

Have a great evening!

WF 4/8 Tuesday Looking for Life

066

We went outside and Melinda asked friends to look for signs of new life in our backyard. Friends found blades of bright green grass buried under rocks. They found worms. They dig into dark brown, wet dirt.

Inside, we created spring life with tempera paints and circular stencils on brown paper.

Circles made another appearance in the way of discs. We passed them out, played a variety of different tunes and explored the  many different purposes that a simple circular disc can serve.

We ride the circle of life each day at Wee Friends. Internally and externally. Circle everywhere. –Laurie

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

**Just as a reminder, WWF will be closed next Friday (April 18) for Good Friday. Thanks!

The day started with lovely music after we all finished our breakfast. Friends shared their instruments with one another. Pianos, xylophones, and drums were used throughout our music session. We worked on using soft and hard touches with our instruments.

IMG_7823IMG_7824

IMG_7827IMG_7841IMG_7844

Saskia hopped up on our new couch and ready one of her favorite stories. Nora read about bringing a new baby home. She has experience in this area with her baby sister! Smile

IMG_7870IMG_7868

Eren, Nora, and Saskia had sensory play this morning with a mixture of birdseed and rice. Saskia scooted closer to Eren and they shared their toys with each other.

IMG_7889IMG_7891IMG_7894

Outside time was AWESOME today. Even though it was a little chilly, we were able to run around the backyard and get some of our silly’s out!

IMG_7904IMG_7909

IMG_7925IMG_7932

IMG_7937IMG_7939

Tate, Maya, and Henri got out different kinds of blocks during nap time as well as rings. We put the rings over our head and tried our hardest to get them off. It was hard at first but then we got the hang of it.

IMG_7949IMG_7953IMG_7968

IMG_7975IMG_7971

For breakfast, children had kix and pears. Lunch consisted of whole grain noodles with spinach and kidney beans, mixed fruit, and peas. PM snack was pretzels and cheddar cheese slices.

Have a wonderful evening!
