Happy Thursday and Valentines Day!

Friends started off their day with gross motor work. A few of our favorite areas include the ladder and the slide. Between climbing and running, our body always gets a workout when we’re on the habitrail!

DSC01978DSC01979DSC02027

Music was turned on and the shakers were brought out for children to use.

DSC01980DSC01984

A surprise came for Ms. Mindy today. A four person quartet came to sing! Friends loved listening to the special singing. We were so attentive!

We did such a good job listening and enjoyed listening to the music.

DSC01989DSC01990

It was good entertainment!

DSC02001

Miss Mindy took her rose around for the kids to smell! Emma thought it was so pretty that she wanted to eat it! We talked about smelling the rose with our noses.

Hello! Hope everyone has had a good day so far!

We had a fantastic stripy day! If you look throughout the blog, we are decked out in stripes!

Emma started her morning off with quiet reading.

DSC01803

She then accompanied Zoey to the habitrail where they took turns putting their arms through the slots.

DSC01806DSC01809DSC01810

Daniel and P.K. lined up cars on the window sill. We talked about the colors of each of the cars. P.K. pointed to the blue car and said, “favorite”.

DSC01808DSC01807

Different genres of music was turned on this morning so we got out the musical shakers. We shook our shakers high in the air!

DSC01814DSC01815DSC01946DSC01816DSC01822

DSC01820DSC01823

We sure did get into it!

DSC01825DSC01826DSC01828

P.K. decided to put his musical shakers in his pocket!

DSC01829DSC01830DSC01831

DSC01832DSC01833DSC01837

Once the shakers were worn out, friends pointed to the drums! We hit the drum soft and hard.

DSC01841DSC01844DSC01843

Zoey preferred the piano over the drums. Emma enjoyed making loud noises with the drums.

DSC01847DSC01845DSC01846

DSC01854DSC01856

The slide was the happening place to be. It was jam packed all day long!

DSC01858DSC01860DSC01862

Daniel made many funny faces today! Grrr!

DSC01873DSC01897

After a playful morning, we took a breather by the side door.

DSC01877DSC01881DSC01882

Before lunch, Marty took a few friends into the kitchen where children worked on their fine motor skills using pegs and Styrofoam boards. Not only did they talk about colors but children were very strategic as they placed the pegs. P.K. built up as high as he could. Daniel made sure to put a peg in every hole. Clara chose to built using her hands instead of the board.

DSC01907DSC01908DSC01911

Wow, that’s high!

DSC01913DSC01914DSC01915

We FINALLY got a decent day where we could go outside! YAY! No snow. No rain. We’re there!

DSC01920DSC01922DSC01923

We bundled up and headed outside where we became familiar with the outside again!

DSC01929DSC01930

The slide was a popular place.

DSC01937DSC01940

Zoey spent her afternoon on the rocking chair. She enjoyed shaking her musical shakers while sitting. If the shaker dropped, she did a good job at maneuvering herself to get down and grab it.

DSC01951DSC01952

For breakfast, children had cheerios and banana. AM snack was green peas. Lunch consisted of pita bread, ham slices, apples, and corn. PM snack was pretzels and raisins.

Have a terrific evening!

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a terrific weekend! We started off with group play. Friends gathered in the front area to play with airplanes and cars. Sharing was the theme of play today. Taking turns is an important topic that we discuss throughout different play experiences.

DSC01746DSC01749

Clara cooked breakfast this morning. She turned the oven on and made sure to tell Miss Mindy that it was “hot” and “no touch!”

DSC01747DSC01748

Emma played peek-a-boo with her scarf. She showed her pearly whites all day! Smile

DSC01751DSC01752

Zoey enjoyed looking out the window at a squirrel that she saw! She relaxed in the chair for a while today. Play took a lot out of her!

DSC01756DSC01758

Music was turned on and friends spun and shook about!

DSC01760DSC01761DSC01763

Emma spun with a big smile on her face as Eve did a yoga pose!

DSC01767DSC01774

Gross motor play was enjoyed throughout the day by our Wee Wee’s. Clara zoomed down the slide on her stomach as Emma waited for her turn down the slide.

DSC01777DSC01778DSC01779

We went to the kitchen where friends had the opportunity to paint if they would like. Clara and P.K. did an outstanding job at using the sponge to dot the paper. Instead of using it to paint, they pushed up and down on the paper leaving dot patterns. They both chose to finger paint as well Smile.

DSC01780DSC01781DSC01782

DSC01785DSC01784DSC01786

Our hands just got a little dirty! We sure do love sensory play Smile.

DSC01789DSC01790

Sensory input at this age is extremely important. Eren tasted the paint in his mouth. We talked about painting on the paper instead of putting it in your mouth. Curiosity at this age is always at an all time high!

DSC01792DSC01793DSC01798

DSC01800DSC01801DSC01799

For breakfast, children had whole wheat bagels with soy butter and banana. AM snack was corn. Lunch consisted of whole grain noodles with beef, banana, and green peas. PM snack was oranges and animal crackers.

Have a great night!

002

003

Macy assembled this new 60 piece puzzle in a snap.

005006

Lisa worked with math terminology: more than/less than, as well as counting and ordering a number of objects. (K.1.8 – Use correctly the words more/less, one/many, none/some/all, most/least).

008

Elliott’s creations continue to get more detailed and tall!

We set out heart stencils, red construction paper and paint and friends created art. Arleigh asked if she could make a frame. As is usually the case, this request peaked many friend’s interest and the experiential exploration continued its creative morphing.

WWF, 2/8/2013

Happy Friday!

Here are a few pictures that were taken throughout the day. Today, friends concentrated on the habitrail and pretend play. A few children worked with airplanes and little people. We put our little people into the plane and off they went. They went around the world! Friends talked about where the people were going while in the airplane. A few answers were the park and zoo!

For breakfast, children had cheerios and raisins. AM snack was green peas. Lunch consisted of egg and cheese tortillas (YUM!), banana, and green peas. PM snack was oranges and hard boiled eggs.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! See you Monday!

WF Friday 2/8

We have been dressing our friends in all their winter gear when going outside. If your Wee Friend has snow pants from home that they would prefer to wear, can you bring those in next week? Thank you so much!!

The morning started slowly and sweetly.

001002

003005

006

And then we were off. To see the Wizard. Sophie’s favorite story and music. Lisa put together a basket and puppy for her. She ran and hopped and skipped down her imagined yellow brick road.

012

013015

The music repeated itself for 10 minutes and Sophie kept running and running and running. When Judy sang “Somewhere over the Rainbow” Ada reminded us that, in the movie, Dorothy sits beside a haystack. We found a haystack and Marina joined Sophie as they looked beyond the rainbow.

About two weeks ago, Elliott became very interested in working with a clipboard. Everyday since, we have watched him as he studies his environment, “taking notes” as he goes along. Yesterday, for the first time at school, he wrote his name! Today, he wrote it several times on his clipboard as he moved from area to area, working. Congratulations, Elliott!

018035

We watched a clip of the Danny Kaye 1952 version of Thumbelina, when he sings the title song. Later, a few friends made Thumbelina Books using their own thumbprints. And hands.
