005

Today, at one table, friends were working on tying shoelaces. At the other table, they were studying the color, shape and size of plastic coins. They also matched the coin to its image on paper.

008

Last Fall, we collected grub worms and created a habit for them. A small group of explorers have been looking for the grub worms, buried deep within a log. While waiting their turn at the workbench, they studied the four layers of the earth.

039

A mini society (which has sustained itself over many days) grew in housekeeping. Their was a nurse and several pregnant mommies, who gave birth. We heard lots of reasonable negotiations as friends shared props and costumes.

040

Friends engaged in their favorite, everyday activities and we watch and listen and support their creative visions!

020

In the summer months, friends spend hours upon hours selling ice cream from the cottage climber. Today we heard “Ice pack! Who wants an ice pack?!”

042

Winter, spring, summer, fall!

At Wee Friends, we’ve got it all!!!

Have a great day.

Laurie

Wee Sprouts: Cucumbers. Breakfast: Corn Chex and pear slices. Lunch: Melted cheddar on whole wheat tortillas, broccoli and pears. Snack: Cottage cheese and bananas.

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Tate started his morning off by continuing to master the habitrail. A new favorite of his is looking at his reflection in the mirror.

Music time occurred this morning where friends used drums, pianos, and maracas to make wonderful sounds. It’s great when all of our friends can be involved in the same activity. Friends watch each other interact. This is where learning and growth takes place.

IMG_2974IMG_2979IMG_2980

Eren, Nora, Lu-Lu, and Saskia headed into the kitchen where they explored shaving cream. A few of our friends had never tried shaving cream before and they dove right in!

Welcome back, Melinda! It’s so good to have you back!

Oh the earth was good to us, and so we thank the earth! For giving us, a warm enough day, to bundle up and go out and play. Yes, the earth was good to us.

044

Have a great day.

Happy Friday!

Tate, Maya, and Lucy had a breakfast pow-wow in the kitchen this morning. Cheerios and banana were on the menu. They’re all enjoying the sensorial aspect of feeding themselves ‘big people’ food Smile.

IMG_2904IMG_2907IMG_2918

Emma and Eren headed into the kitchen where they played with shaving cream. Eren put a lot in his hand and then squeezed it out while Emma took her fingers and drew lines in the shaving cream.

IMG_2925IMG_2932

IMG_2934IMG_2935IMG_2936

Our friend Nora came to visit again this morning! She asked to go play in the kitchen so Eren and Emma followed. They had a blast coloring with the markers! Our fine motor is improving along with our color recognition Smile.

IMG_2960IMG_2963IMG_2965

For breakfast, children had oatmeal and banana. Lunch consisted of hummus on whole wheat bread, mixed vegetables, and pears. PM snack was cheddar cheese and crackers.

Have a wonderful weekend!

WF Friday 1/10

Happy Friday!

Friends were very excited to get back on the Blue Bus today! They were also excited to count hearts. With numbered paper hearts, friends added and subtracted. Then they added dice. They added the numbers on the dice. They found the hearts that matched those numbers.

016

Santa had an evolving crew of elves making presents for his sack. Practically speaking, friends spent huge amounts of time cutting with scissors.

027

Tami read Boom Chicka Rock by John Archambault. Friends gathered around her to listen to a story, sing along AND count the numbers on the face of a clock. Later, they found an image of the clock on the reading center wall. They matched the book clock with the wall clock. 028

Friends were leaders and followers, dancers and athletes, architects and mathematicians, moms, dads, sisters, brothers and babies. A great way to end our week back.

Happy Friday and have a terrific weekend.

Laurie

Happy Thursday!

We spent our morning getting to know our newest two year old friend Nora! With the travel and weather delays, Nora and her mom, Nicole, made it to Wee Wee today! She’ll have her first full day on Monday. We’re so excited to welcome Sean, Nicole, and Nora to our Wee Wee family!

IMG_2825IMG_2823

Between pulling ourselves up onto furniture, jumping on our bottoms in a play block, and getting in tune with the fish, our baby friends had a fantastic day!

IMG_2815IMG_2831IMG_2850

Eren and Emma took their new friend Nora into the kitchen where they colored, playing with magnatiles, and did peg work.

This afternoon, Eve came over to say hi to her friends and sister Maya. Eve is transitioning this week to Wee Friends! We enjoyed seeing her and her BIG smile!

IMG_2875IMG_2878

For breakfast, children had whole grain toast with butter and cinnamon along with banana. Lunch consisted of whole grain noodles with marinara and turkey sausage, mixed vegetables, and banana. PM snack was cottage cheese and pretzels.

Our gentlemen of the class say, “bye!”

WF Thursday 1/9

028

There were lots of ideas and interests being developed today. Fireflies for one. Yesterday, Lisa read a book that mentioned a firefly. The kids were captivated by this tiny magical insect. Today, a small group worked together to learn the different parts of a firefly, especially the part that makes it light up!

Puzzles, princess drawings and Magna Tiles were other activities that filled the imaginations of our friends. 012

We filled bins with snow and added Little People. We also squirted water color and sprinkled sparkles into the snow. We asked questions as friends explored the textures and temperatures: “Is it hot or cold? Soft or hard? Slimy or fluffy?”

007

The Polar Express was built under the habitrail. We explored the word “polar” and identified other words that are coupled with it (and why).020

A small group of friends used magnifying glasses to study other kinds of bugs and insects.  032

They organized a very practical and comfortable work table for their study.

And a few friends danced The Nutcracker. To the Nutcracker music. They described, at length, characters in the story and which WF was which character.

040

Our older friends who meet for large group after lunch began The Magic School Bus study. As I write, they are creating their own magic school bus out of cardboard boxes, markers and glue.

Princesses and fireflies, trains and buses. Let’s see where our Wee minds take us.

Have a terrific day!

Laurie

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

We all got back in the swing of things today! Everyone had a lovely two and a half weeks to spend at home with family but it’s back to Wee Wee World Smile.

Eren and Saskia played together all morning. Reading books and playing in the gross motor area filled their day!

IMG_2724IMG_2729IMG_2735

Our three little friends came back and acted as if they were never gone! They’re getting teeth, moving quicker, and growing faster than we can blink our eyes.

Have a great evening!

WF Wednesday 1/8

003

Welcome back Wee Friends and Families!

Today, we welcome Eve into the older classroom!

We eased into our day hearing lots of stories about stay at home days and exciting things in their lives.

015

Max made it to # 38 in The Magic Tree House book series. Owen played store. Aislinn got a new Lego set and Marta ate octopus at a Japanese grocery. Sloane joined the “big kid group” and Leo slipped right into his WF house slippers. Elliott told us about how his daddy put the Christmas tree outside and it stood straight up, all by itself, like a real tree. Elizabeth got a new hat and gloves and still loves Sleeping Beauty. At WF, Finn gets to stay up now, instead of napping. Clara hung ornaments with her mom and Ellie’s new princess shampoo doesn’t make her head itch.

026

Friends jumped into their favorite places to learn and play. Lisa offered an observation/listening game in which friends listened to an object move around the inside of a box. She showed them a tray with the missing toy and they had to guess which toy they heard.

023

A stage was built for The Nutcracker and Elizabeth and Sloane cast the ballet and then danced it. Sadly, our Nutcracker recording was not available, so they settled for a synthesized Beatle’s medley.

041

The Blue Bus will be here on Friday morning.

It’s good to see everyone again! Here’s to the start of a fantastic 2014!!!
