Good Afternoon!

***Just a reminder about tomorrows farm trip! We are leaving around 9:45 am so please make sure our friends arrive on time. Children who are two years or older are allowed to go. Those of us who are under two need a parent to attend. Please make sure that your children are dressed appropriately for the weather (its supposed to be warm). Also, children should be wearing shoes that can get dirty since we will be walking around a farm.

Our friends started off their morning with painting in the kitchen! Sloane sat at the table and painted with silver and red paint. She said she was painting doggies. Marina and Olivia stood at the painting board. Olivia painted with a variety of colors. When asked what she was painting, she said, “Mommy and Daddy!” Marina made sure to have nice strokes and made multiple circles.

003 002 024

Aiden enjoyed all of the toys that his friends brought him! He sure had a lot to choose from. He picked out his favorite though!

005010

Our friends got out the plastic rings to use while music was playing. Children put two rings on the floor and stepped into the rings with their feet. They then bounced up and down!

014 017

P.K put his two feet into the plastic ring and bounced with his legs. He laughed at this! Ellie used a blue ring to spin around in her hand. Chloe found it interesting to put the rings around her neck and use their as necklaces!

018020012

Children gathered as they listened to Miss Paulina talk about different animals such as farm animals that some of us will see tomorrow at the farm!

026

Ozzie and Marina used a green ball to roll back and forth to each other. First, they used their hands but then they decided to use their feet to push the ball to each other.

030 031 032

We sang, “We’re gonna stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp…” and we stomped our little feet on the floor!

035037

Once outside, Sloane and Olivia gravitated towards the bikes where they got on tricycles and rode around the bike circle.

041 043

Sloane and Ellie went into the log house where they made pretend food using rocks and pebbles!

042050 052

For breakfast, our friends enjoyed toast and craisins. AM snack was carrots. Lunch consisted of ham and melted cheese whole wheat tortillas, mixed fruit (watermelon and cantaloupe), and mixed vegetables. PM snack was cheese, watermelon, and cantaloupe.

Have a great evening!

Our writers have been so proud to share their original works with parents and families. Please be sure to take a look at the books, located on the shelf above the cubbies as you enter Wee Friends!

This morning, at the Y, our swimmers practiced jumping into the pool, first with a life preserver, then a hand held foam barbell and lastly, a waist strapped floaty. They swam the length of the pool and worked on the backstroke.

As the school year comes to a close, please enjoy these WF Yearbook shots Smile!!

Our original intention was to use them in the Spring Joy! program but time and those little black bugs that inhabited the neighboring tree prevented it! I hesitated to share them because of this but our Wee Friends are so beautiful!!

Wee Sprouts today are carrots and cucumber slices. Breakfast was whole wheat toast with peanut butter and apple slices. For lunch, we served melted cheddar and ham sandwiches on whole wheat tortillas, watermelon/cantaloupe and cucumber slices.

Have a terrific day.

Good Afternoon!

Our friends started off their morning coloring with markers in their journals. They worked on drawing circles and smiley faces. Children made two dots for the eyes and then a line for the face.

001 002 003

Sloane enjoyed making circle after circle.

004 005

Marina made a smiley face. There are two dots for the eyes and several dots for the mouth and nose.

006

Chloe enjoyed riding the lion. She kept saying, “Wee!”

011

While outside, our friends worked on their balancing skills by putting their arms out to the side so they wouldn’t fall. Olivia started to fall off but she caught herself using her arms and legs.

013017016

P.K. and Ellie were playing peek-a-boo with the window in the house. P.K. later tripped outside and Marina went over to him to see if he was alright. She bent over to give him a hug.

022 029

Olivia and Marina found watering cans that surprisingly made interesting sounds!

032 033

Ozzie was interested in the basketball hoop. He took a bouncy ball and tried to throw it up towards the net. Ellie enjoyed throwing and kicking the ball. Her gross motor skills were in high gear as she ran with the ball in her hands and then kicking it when she was done.

040 041

Aiden had floor time today that involved getting on all fours. It looked like he was doing a baby push-up! He is becoming very detailed and looking at toys for an extended period of time. He definitely has his favorite toys here at Wee Wee Friends!

046053

Clara played pretend as her older friends slept. She poured herself some tea into a cup. She also enjoyed touching the different toys on the bouncy seat. She especially liked the ones that made noise!

052 051

For breakfast, our friends enjoyed eggs and banana. Our morning snack was cucumbers. Lunch consisted of whole wheat penne pasta with red and black beans, watermelon, and mixed veggies. PM snack was blueberry yogurt and pears.

Have a great evening!

Parent Communication:

  • Farmer Charlotte is collecting egg cartons for her farm eggs. Please feel free to donate any cartons that you might otherwise recycle. Drop them off at WF and we will take them to the farm for you.
  • On Wednesday, Tami and a WWF teacher will be taking the Wee Wee’s to the farm. There will be no friends from WF going this week.
  • For our summer study “Around the World in 55 Days”, many of you have offered to come to WF and share information about a country of your choosing. Please communicate with a WF teacher which summer morning you’d like to come. Paulina will present Chile on June 4th and we are closed the week of July 2nd. Otherwise, we are wide open! Our vision is that you would come for one ‘session’ at the beginning of the week and we would spent the remainder of the week further exploring the country you’ve introduced to WF. Thank you so much!!! And….no pressure….Smile
  • Swimming, as usual, tomorrow. 9:30 departure.

The Blue Bus came this morning, as usual, and while groups took turns working out, friends gathered around the art table to begin the first step of creating Paper Mache globes. We started with a balloon and friends dipped strips of newspaper into a water/flour mixture. They covered their balloon with the paper and set it aside to dry overnight.

_MG_2572

Lisa explored numeric values with “Crazy Eights” and at the table we discussed addition and equal signs.

I mentioned Friday that our friends finished their original books. They are on the shelf above the cubbies for you to enjoy!

Today, in preparation for our trip around the world, we examined and discussed skin color. Using multi-cultural markers, friends chose a color they felt best represented their skin color and then drew a self portrait in the first page of their passport.  We began the day singing a WWF favorite “We All Sing With the Same Voice” to study different children around the world and the color of their skin.

Wee Sprouts: snap peas and carrots, Breakfast: Corn Chex and apple slices, Lunch: Whole wheat penne pasta with red and black beans, mixed veggies and watermelon.

_MG_2466

Yesterday friends waited and then clamored to see Eddie and his crew pour the cement to create new sidewalks! After seeing them work so hard, Kai suggested to Lisa “Let’s give the guys the rest of our popsicles!” They really appreciated it.

_MG_2469_MG_2467

_MG_2470

When Eddie returned today, a few friends ran to the window shouting out questions: “Eddie! Where is the jackhammer! Eddie! Where are your tools? Eddie, what are you doing?”

_MG_2527

We opened the door, visited with Eddie, and got the answers to our questions.

_MG_2528

Back inside, friends finished their bug puppets by choosing to either turn them into a mask with a headband or put a handle on the back to carry it.

Sharing. A life skill we use all of our lives. Today we introduced the concept of the “double dog dare”. We explained to our friends that this meant offering a friend (or yourself!) a very big challenge for the day. As friends began talking with one another, challenges such as “use words”, “don’t whine”, “be nice”, “share” were discussed. We ended the conversation with one big request –TO SHARE!-in the form of a new song “Why Should I Share?”. So far, the double dog dare has made for another peaceful day with friends enjoying one another and the classroom activities.

_MG_2493

We’re moving away from bugs and out into the world!

_MG_2536

Friends gathered around the art table to create one dimensional replicas of the earth. Our older friends discussed the concept of one dimensional art and our younger ones, color and color associations. We message boarded what the earth is made of and chose colors that represented the stated ideas.

Hello!

We started off our morning with a dance session that took place in the living room. Our friends made a circle and joined hands. They swayed from side to side while moving their feet to the beat!

002007

Aiden loved the monkey book that was given to him by a friend. He touched the monkey with his fingers and laughed. His friends always bring him different toys to play with!

017

Jada and Ozzie asked to get the play-dough out. Jada rolled the play-dough into a straight line and said, “It’s a snake!” Ozzie built a big play-dough ball and stuck several straws into it.

023026

While outside, Sloane and Jada headed over to the tricycles where they used their feet and push against the ground.

031 032

P.K. was in the house outside. Miss Mindy went up to the door to see what he was doing. P.K. opened the door and said, “Hi!”

035

The sun was shining today which made the sand feel very good on our feet. Jada and Marina kicked sand using their feet and toes!

037040

Marina and Ozzie were sitting on the bench together. However, they were sitting backwards! They were talking to each other and laughing at how they were sitting.

049

Chloe headed to the house to practice her pouring skills. She started pouring sand from the plate to the sink. She used her hand to scoop the sand into the plate.

050

P.K. was entertaining a few of our Wee Friends. He was using different parts of his body such as his tongue to crack a few laughs! He also shook his head back and forth several times. He enjoyed the attention Smile. He then headed to the house where he firmly brushed the sand off the counter with his hand.

052060

Sloane washed her hands in the pretend sink in the house. Ellie practice her pouring skills using a bowl and plate to transfer the sand.

059065

Marina made a birthday cake and pretended to blow out her candles!

062

Breakfast consisted of corn bran cereal with cantaloupe. AM snack was cucumbers. For lunch, our friends enjoyed soy butter sandwiches, pineapple and banana, and carrots. For our afternoon snack, Miss Tami made yummy blueberry smoothies. They were great! We also had whole wheat crackers.

Have a great evening!

The afterglow from “Spring Joy!” continues! This morning, Elliott relaxed with “When the Cows Come Home” reciting lines from our play, out loud, when the pictures ‘rang a bell’!

_MG_2437

What began as a Star Wars Space Station soon morphed into jackhammers which inspired lots of singing (with gusto!) “Jackhammer Joy!”

_MG_2445_MG_2446_MG_2450_MG_2455

Today Kai requested that we make life-sized bug puppets. Friends flocked to have their bodies traced on paper and then worked side by side drawing the details of their imagined bug on their bug body.

Wee Sprouts: snap peas and cucumber slices, Breakfast: Cheerios and cantaloupe, Lunch: Peanut butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread, bananas and carrot sticks.

Have a great day.

WWF, 5/16/2012

Good Afternoon!

Ozzie started his Wednesday off by bringing in cars into the kitchen where the car tracks awaited for him! He made sure to line up the cars in a row and was very meticulous about where the cars parked.

001002

Miss Marty walked over to the lego area where she found Sloane and Ozzie laying on the floor. She asked them what they were doing. Their response was, “We’re taking a nap!”

003

Ellie flashed a smile as she was reading stories to herself on the carpet!

006

Our friends spent a good portion of the morning in the kitchen where they used markers to draw on different kinds of paper. Olivia picked up two markers and colored with them on her paper.

008014

After everyone was done coloring, they pitched in and helped clean up. Our friends each grabbed a wash cloth and made sure it was wet. They cleaned the table as well as the floor. This was a big help!

020023

We headed to the bridge where our friends participated in music time. P.K. enjoyed touching the small and thin strings on the guitar. Children put their hands in the air and waved them around. They followed directions and twirled around as well.

038056

Our friends witnessed an exciting project that is underway: the sidewalks are getting repaved! Marina thought it was a little too loud so she put her hands on her ears. Children asked about the ‘bobcat’ and why it was here. We talked to them about the sidewalks getting fixed and how they were going to fix them.

042043

When music time was all over, we sang one last song. Sloane and Marina clapped their hands together when we were all done!

061

We travelled inside so we could put our instruments away and grab a snack. We immediately went outside to the backyard! Again, our friends found the bobcat! They talked to their friends about the cement that they could see.

071078

We looked next door and who did we see? Our Wee Friends! They observed the ‘bobcat’ and talked about whether the cement was light or heavy.

076

Chloe and Ozzie grabbed the blue dogs. Chloe chose to ride hers and push herself with her feet while Ozzie decided to push his. He even started running!

081082

Ellie played inside the wooden house where she filled different containers with rocks.

083

Sloane used a big shovel to scoop up sand and dump it into a cupcake container.

086

For breakfast, our friends had cheerios and banana. AM snack was cucumbers. Lunch consisted of pita bread, hummus, mixed vegetables, and banana. PM snack was rice cakes with cream cheese and pears.

Have a great evening!

WF Daily Explorations, Farm 5-16-12

Please remember to allow enough time at pickup for the short walk from the church parking lot since our parking section will be blocked off for the rest of the week while the sidewalks are being replaced.  Thanks so much for your cooperation in this!!!

What a beautiful day to explore the farm!  Please note that WWF will have a farm day on May 23rd, so the WF group will be taking a week off.  I don’t have as many pictures today since we forgot the camera.  We used our iPhones to snap a few moments to share.

Today at the farm we:

Took turns holding the baby chicks!

photo10 photo9photo11photo7photo8

photo12

Caught and held chickens.  Both Ada and Vivian were thrilled to have been able to catch their first chickens!

photo4photo 1photo

We spent the rest of our time helping with the gardening.  The children took turns planting sunflowers, beans, and corn. They worked together to achieve the perfect spacing and to stay in straight rows!  Ada carefully placed the yellow flags at the end of the garden to designate the rows.  In between planting, the children enjoyed playing on the line of hay bales and collecting rocks out of the garden and putting them in buckets.photo5

Back at WF the children spent much of the morning watching the sidewalks be demolished.  Miss Melinda and Miss Lisa took the children out to perform Jack Hammer Joy to the workers who appreciated the WF original songSmile

_MG_2407_MG_2411

_MG_2413

Inside, the children worked on Spring Joy collages and spent quite a bit of time doing small group work surrounding the Slugs and Snail book!

Our breakfast today was toasted bagels and banana.  Lunch consisted of roast beef with whole wheat noodles, french cut green beans,  fresh pear slices.

Thanks!

Tami
