Good Afternoon!

**In order to be in compliance with state laws, we need UPDATED SHOT RECORDS for every child. We need updated shot records by Monday, January 8th. Thank you!

**Before our Christmas break starts, please take a minute to clear out your child’s cubbie as well as their art cubbie. We’ll have plastic bags available in a spare cubbie. Thank you!

In our pre-k/k group, we read ‘Bear Stays Up For Christmas’. Throughout the story, children noted rhyming words that they noticed which lead into our activity after we finished the story.

I had five words up on the board and it was our job to match the rhyming words. When we came up on the word ‘down’, Lulu immediately shouted, “frown”. I asked what letter that word would start with and a few friends said, “F!”. Together, we found a word that started with an ‘F’ and matched it to ‘down’.

Our morning was full of various activities going on and children engaging either alone or with peers.

The art area was full of children making cards for people in their lives; mostly mom and dad! Grady interacted with the welcome activity; matching dominos. Chloe challenged herself by completing various 24 piece puzzles. We’re gearing up for Christmas break and making the most of our last days at Wee Friends in 2017!

Miss Kim opened up the island for a baking opportunity. Children helped Miss Kim bake pumpkin muffins that we had later on for afternoon snack. Each friend got the chance to measure or pour something into the mixture.

Good Afternoon!

We finished up our FAB schedule for the fall! FAB’s will start back up after Christmas break. This week, our pre-k/k group will be extending a few FAB’s for topics where they had full comprehension.

Today in group, we read ‘The Hat’ by Jan Brett. Afterwards, we talked about the various animals and characters that we read about in the book. We counted the syllables in each name, quickly realizing that all of the names either had one or two syllables. Children started counting the syllables in each others names which lead to children quickly realizing that all of the ‘boy’ names had two syllables (MAXWELL, RILEY, AND GRADY) while the ‘girl’ names are all three syllable words (LUCINDA, LUISA, AND MADELINE).

Wooden blocks were used for a variety of building activities. Max, Lucy, and Anna used the big, plastic blocks and wooden blocks to build a bunk bed while Maddie and Lulu used them as surf boards. They both worked on their balance, trying to stay on their surf boards for as long as possible.

Good Afternoon!

**Just a reminder: Wee Friends will be closed Monday, December 25th through Friday, January 5th. We’ll reopen Monday, January 8th.

In our pre-k/k group, we wrapped up the week talking about President’s Day. After talking about a few presidents that we were familiar with, I showed the group a picture of Mount Rushmore. Lulu shouted, “Hey, that’s Rushmore!”. We got a map out and found where South Dakota is which is where Mount Rushmore is located.

We brought up the trampoline from downstairs which allowed for us to move our bodies around in a positive way. Children worked with puzzles and read several stories throughout the morning.

This morning we started off using our creative skills as we built with the magnatiles.

We then worked on our fine motor skills during an art activity. We used a brush to spread glue onto our Santa hats before using our creativity to decorate them using Christmas color pom poms, sequins and red crinkly paper.

Good Afternoon!

We continued learning about holidays and celebrations in our pre-k/k group. Today, we focused on Veteran’s Day. As a group, we discussed what a ‘veteran’ is; someone who has served in the military for our country.

Social Studies: K.1.2 Identify celebrations and holidays as a way of remembering and honoring people, events, and America’s heritage.

DSCN2281DSCN2284

There are several activities that children can explore at the art table. Lucy got out a sketching/drawing book and proceeded to follow the directions to draw a lion!

DSCN2245DSCN2251

While the art table was busy, habitrail picked up when a group of children built a bed using wooden blocks. The three boys who worked together to build this are all different ages but worked well together by voicing their ideas and listening to each others thoughts.

DSCN2246DSCN2247

Before lunch, a few children requested play dough so spots were made available at the art table. Using several tools, various items were made: a cookie with sprinkles, pizza, and a snowman!

“Children have an immense capacity for concentration and hard work when they are passionate about what they are doing.”

Happy Wednesday!

This morning Daniel reached up for the xylophone mallet that was hanging off the shelf. We enjoyed playing our xylophones and pianos listening to the different sounds of the keys and making our own music.

DSCN7459DSCN7460

Miss Rebekah did a song with us that she taught us a while ago.  The song is called,  See The Bunnies Sleeping. We can change the song to include any other animal or insect and act out how they move. We decided to be a bee and we fluttered our arms really fast like the wings of the bee as we made a buzzing sound.

DSCN7473DSCN7476DSCN7477

We all enjoyed looking at books. Some of us made up our own stories as we looked at the pictures.
