Good Afternoon!
Lulu and Maddie helped me finish the syllable cards that we used in an activity this morning! Each child had five clip cards at a time. After looking at the picture on the card, we used two techniques (chin and clap) to figure out how many syllables were in each word. Lucy had a picture of a fish so using both techniques, she put her clothespin on the number ‘1’ to show that fish has one syllable.
K.RF.3.2: Orally segment words into syllables.
The art table was transformed into an ice cream shop as children matched the ice cream top (uppercase letter) to the cone (lowercase letter). Afterwards, we were so interested in the ice cream cones that we started creating our own!
K.RF.2.4: Identify and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
In large group, we read ‘There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly’. We made an animal line of which animals the old lady ate. We talked about how each animal that came next was bigger than the one before. Friends decided that this was DEFINTELY a made up story . A few children noted that if we WANTED to, we could eat a fly and a spider but nothing else!
Even though the weather was a little dreary, we made the best of our Thursday!
