Good Afternoon!

*Reminder: Wee Friends is closed for summer vacation starting Thursday, June 29th and will reopen Monday, July 10th. Thanks!

This morning, we used our hands in a variety of ways; painting, puzzles, and play dough (our three favorite p’s).

The older group went to the farm (and met Jackson, Max, and their mom Dixie there) and the first thing we got to experience was a horse getting it’s hooves trimmed! We stood by and watched as this was happening and afterwards, we got to hold the tools that were used (they were HEAVY!).

Fun fact: Did you know that ground horse hooves are in the following foods?: jelly, jam, and Jell-O!

We stopped and said hi to the turkey chicks that we delivered a couple weeks back. Boy, have they grown! They went from sharing one cage to now having to use all three cages!

There was not a cloud in the sky this morning which was fabulous weather for a good run around the farm. Once we got out into open spaces, we were free to run and get out our energy in a positive way.

P6010415P6010417

Of course, we had to stop and get a few swings in at our favorite place!

P6010423P6010425

We walked up toward the farm and Miss Charlotte told us that we could head to the garden and pick some strawberries! Each friend picked two to three strawberries before heading to the sink outside to clean them off.

Our younger group had met Miss Charlottes snake and our older friends were a little envious. So, they politely went up to the house and rang the door bell. “Can we please met your snake?”, they asked. A couple of our friends took turns holding the snake. We learned a couple things about the snake:

1. The snake only eats every three to four weeks (a couple mice do the trickSmile).

2. This specific snake was a vertebrae. We got to feel it’s spine and ribs.

3. It’s a cold blooded animal, different from most mammals who are warm blooded.

Good Afternoon!

Children gathered in the science area to listen to Miss Kaylee read ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. Throughout the story, Miss Kaylee asked questions pertaining to the story. Friends guessed what would happen next and shared their feelings about specific colored crayons.

After Miss Kaylee finished reading the book, the group headed to the art table where they each wrote a letter to a specific colored crayon. Given our friends have various levels of readiness for letter writing, some friends wrote out their letter using their kid spelling while others told Miss Kaylee what they wanted her to write.

The habitrail was like an ever rotating door as friends needed a space to move their bodies around in a positive and engaging way.

Franklin asked Anna to help him with the alphabet train puzzle so together, they put it together before tackling the farm floor puzzle.

WF, 5/26/2017, HAPPY GRADUATION DAY!

Good Afternoon!

Today, we celebrated many important events in our Wee Friends lives.

Jackson said a farewell to Wee Friends with his last kindergarten sign in this morning. He and Addi were given a special kindergarten graduation ceremony this afternoon as they truly have been invaluable to our class this past year. They epitomized what it means to be a leader and showed the next kindergarten class what it means to take on the role.

We’ve so enjoyed watching you grow these last two years, Jackson. You’re going to flourish wherever you go in life. WEE love you!

We’re sending out a BIG happy early 5th birthday to Maddie! Hope you have a wonderfully special weekend.

DSCN0678DSCN0690

Miss Kaylee invited children to the table to experiment with ice. We used ice, buckets, and watercolor paint to see what would happen to the ice when we painted it with the water colors! A few friends noted that the more they moved the ice around, the quicker it melted.

DSCN0713DSCN0709

It was all about healthy choices today for lunch (and celebrating graduation day!).

Friends had the opportunity to make their own english muffin pizzas. We chose from ham, olives, pineapple, green pepper, tomatoes, and mushrooms along with two different kinds of cheese. We talked about the healthy choices we were making and what that does for our bodies.

DSCN0710DSCN0711DSCN0715

To add to our homemade pizza, Maddie brought in fruit kabobs for her birthday treat! Our plates looked QUITE spectacular today.

Good Afternoon!

**Please take a moment and go through your child’s bathroom cubbie to make sure that they have appropriate spare summer clothes. Thank you!

In large group, we continued our discussion about the calendar and specific terms that we see on any given calendar. Today, we talked about the terms ‘month’ and ‘year’. After reading an information text, we found out that there are twelve months in a year. Jackson shouted, “We’re in the month of May!”

Friends talked about what happens in a year. Lulu said, “I am four for a whole year!” The discussions and information that is put forth by this age group is generally content that they are personally connected to.

Social Studies: K.1.5 Explain that calendars are used to represent days of the week and months of the year.

DSCN0669DSCN0670DSCN0668

Miss Kaylee started up an activity in the science area. It peaked the interest of several children so we worked together as a team.

First, Miss Kaylee gaged the current knowledge of shapes that our friends exhibited. After identifying all of the shapes that were laid out, children headed out into the environment to find different shapes. For example, Lucy found a rubber band that formed the shape of a circle.

DSCN0605DSCN0608

After several examples of the shapes were found, Rosemary helped Miss Kaylee sort them into the correct category. We came to the conclusion that we were able to find ample examples of squares and rectangles which allowed us to look at the similarities and differences of these two shapes.

DSCN0616DSCN0625

Addi and Jackson went outside with Miss Melinda to weed the backyard environment. They used different tools to cut weeds that needed a little assistance coming out of the ground.
