Happy Friday!

**A note to parents: We’ve been working with our friends on NOT touching or opening the front door. Since it is a safety issue, we implement the following rule: ONLY TEACHERS AND PARENTS CAN OPEN/CLOSE THE DOOR. If we could get your help with this during drop offs and pick up’s, we’d greatly appreciate it!

Today wasn’t Friday here at Wee Friends: it was experimentation day.

Experiment 1: Fill a pitcher with water. Attach a piece of string to the pitcher and another cup. When the pitcher gets tipped to where the water starts pouring out, it should go down the string (the string has to be tight), as opposed to going on the ground. After a few tries and switching up a few of our variables, it worked! The water travelled down the string!

DSCN2899DSCN2905

Experiment 2: The back story: yesterday afternoon, we tried this experiment. The food coloring drops were put into the center of the cup and we didn’t get the result we were hoping for. SO, after a long nights sleep, we retried the experiment this morning.

Everyone had a cup of milk. One drop of each color (red, blue, green, and yellow) was placed on the OUTSIDE of the cup. Eventually, the colors started to migrate toward each other in the center of the milk, blending with each other. IMPORTANT: You CAN NOT touch the glass or it voids the result.

DSCN2909DSCN2916

A couple things we observed:

1. The yellow migrated the shortest amount compared to the green, red, and blue.

2. The yellow also sunk to the bottom while the other colors did not!

DSCN2920DSCN2921DSCN2924

Experiment 3: Friends requested a new batch of slime. So, given it was St. Patrick’s Day, we made a new green batch of slime!

DSCN2931DSCN2932

We can do SO many things with slime. One of our favorite things to do is hold it by our head (over the tray) and watch as it slowly falls, bringing the topic of gravity into our sensory experiment.

DSCN2940DSCN2941

Of course, there were breaks in our exploratory morning. For example, Jackson read to his younger friend Grady! They read many Robert Munsch books together.

Breakfast– Rice cakes with no nut butter and pears.

Lunch– Ham and melted shredded cheese on tortillas, pineapple/banana, and cauliflower.

PM snackSt. Patrick’s Day Treat: homemade guacamole with blue corn chips and kiwi!

Wee Sprout– Peppers.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Hello!

In large group, we read two stories that dealt with the numbers 1-10; Ten Little Ladybugs and Ten Little Fish. We looked at the numbers as well as the number words. In both of the stories, we kept an eye out for the number words and the letters that are used to make the words.

In kindergarten sign in, Jackson and Addi had to write the number word for 10!

K.NS.2: Write whole numbers 0 to 20 and recognize number words from 0 to 10.

DSCN2858DSCN2814

It was a sensory filled morning! Right as breakfast was cleaned up, Jackson requested slime. A few friends manipulated the slime with their hands as well as looking at the cause and effect of slime. Jackson held the slime even with his head and watched as it slowly headed towards the table. The word ‘gravity’ was discussed in terms of the pull of gravity on a specific item. Lulu started talking about how there’s no gravity at the moon; that’s why people can float in space!

DSCN2793DSCN2794DSCN2799

Afterwards, friends wanted to play with the tools so we got out play dough. We used a variety of tools including scissors, rolling pins, and cookie cutters. The play dough was used all morning long!

DSCN2811DSCN2812

Breakfast– Kix and pears.

Lunch– Brown rice with turkey, apples, and cherry tomatoes.

PM snack– Goldfish and pumpkin seeds.

Wee Sprouts– Cucumbers and carrots.

Have a fantastic night.

Today our friends chose to start their day with the new trucks. They have quickly become the new favorite activity for the classroom!

DSCN7516DSCN7468

Then we moved into the kitchen for a new activity: hammering golf tees into Styrofoam boxes! This activity tests their fine motor and co-ordination skills and friends couldn’t wait for their turn to hammer away!

Breakfast was Whole Grain Cheerios and pears. Lunch consisted of whole grain brown rice with turkey, pears, and mixed veggies. Afternoon snack was sweet pea butter on rice cakes.

Happy Wednesday! We spent the morning building together with stackers and Magna-Tiles.

DSCN7369DSCN7381

Then we got ready for Easter by decorating Easter eggs with the dot paints. These will add lots of color to our classroom next month!

DSCN7389DSCN7386DSCN7415

Different trucks were brought out and our friends love playing with them. They each picked an animal to put on their truck and pushed it along the shelf and around the habitrail area.

Breakfast was Chex and banana. Wee sprout was peas. Lunch consisted of homemade French toast casserole, banana, and peas. Afternoon snack was pretzels and string cheese.

Good Afternoon!

One of our kindergarten FAB’s for this week focuses on categories; figuring out what fits and what doesn’t. Today, we had the category game as our welcome activity which lasted all morning long.

Various friends came to the table and interacted with the game. They used their peers as a reference if they weren’t too sure which allowed for great communication and collaboration!

K.RV.2.2: Identify and sort pictures of objects into categories (e.g., colors, shapes, opposites).

DSCN2697DSCN2709DSCN2720

Miss Melinda lead an activity at the art table that used a variety of art materials. Children used straws, cardboard, and labels to create their very own musical instrument! Friends cut the straws different sizes which gave their instrument a variety of sounds!

DSCN2732DSCN2744

Afterwards, the musical instruments were tested out! We listened for the higher and lower pitched sounds that the variety in straws provided.

DSCN2741DSCN2751DSCN2745

During large group, we read ‘Where The Wild Things Are’. After we finished, we had a discussion about the different between what’s real and what’s make believe. Our large group friends tied this conversation to what they KNOW: “That story is make believe: just like when we play dinosaurs in the habitrail. It’s not real.”

DSCN2783DSCN2782

We hope you had a fantastic Wednesday.

DSCN2775

Breakfast– Malt-O-Meal and blackberries.

Lunch– Homemade french toast casserole, PPC cantaloupe, and peppers.

PM snack– Air popped popcorn and raspberries.

Wee Sprout– Carrots and green beans.

Have a terrific evening.

Today we are celebrating Marty’s 20 year anniversary of being a teacher at Wee Friends! It is an amazing accomplishment and we are so fortunate to have a teacher with such passion for children and dedication to our program. Thank you Marty!!!

Good Afternoon! This morning we had music time. We played a variety of different instruments to hear the different sounds they made while making our own music.

Addi requested building with Legos. We went downstairs and brought them up and added them to our environment. Many friends were busy building their own creations.

DSCN2664DSCN2654

We dressed up, created with magnatiles and blocks, and made a building project at the workbench.
