Good Afternoon!

**If you haven’t turned in the yellow pre-conference form, please have that in by this Friday at the latest as we like to refer to them while completing conference forms. Thanks!

We had a late start today because of a weather delay! Even though our routine was a little off, children were able to become involved and acclimated quite well.

Here are a few pictures from our morning!

Good Afternoon!

Anna and a few of her peers explored a new activity this morning that revolved about categorizing and sorting animals based on their habitats. After Anna sorted all of the animals, we counted each habitat to see which habitat had the most animals.

K.DA.1: Identify, sort, and classify objects by size, number, and other attributes. Identify objects that do not belong to a particular group and explain the reasoning.

Maddie took on a 100 piece puzzle this morning. Lucy and Anna were quick to jump in and help her finish it. They worked great together, communicating and helping one another.

The rest of our morning included several different activities where we used our hands.

Children had the opportunity to paint coffee filters using water colors. Max and a peer built a detailed track using wooden blocks.

Good Afternoon!

Just a friendly reminder, we will be closed Friday, February 16 for parent-teacher conferences.  We will provide care for your child during your conference time.  Thank you.

This morning we enjoyed dancing with our scarves. While we were dancing, Miss Rebekah turned on the song, Bop Until You Drop Greg and Steve.  This song contains many actions we could use with our scarves.  For example, they danced high and low, in slow motion and floated in the air like a feather.

Aggie and Daniel helped Emma by adding magnatile squares to her tower.

Happy Monday!

**VALENTINE’S DAY: Valentine’s Day is next Wednesday. Every child will get to make their own decorative storage bag. Your child can bring in Valentine’s for their classmates. We have 17 children total. Please put your child’s name on the card (or have them write it for our older friends) but don’t write their peers names on the cards as it’s harder to hand them out in a timely fashion. Also, we ask that you refrain from bringing any sweets attached to the Valentines cards. Thanks so much!

In pre-k/k group, we’re diving into the different narrative text genres this week. Today, we focused on fiction stories, ‘The Boss Baby’ specifically. We also brainstormed several different fiction stories that we know of.

Throughout the week, we’ll be focusing on fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and fairy tale stories. We’ll compare and contrast what each genre has to offer.

K.RL.3.1: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g., fiction, nonfiction, fairy tales, poems).

Franklin and Chloe each took turns interacting with the word puzzles. Once they completed each puzzle, we talked about the letters that made up each word.

Paint was made available at the art table this morning. Children had the opportunity to pick several different colors of paint to put on their paper.

Happy Friday!

While play dough seems like a simple activity for children, it offers many benefits. Not only are children allowed to explore their imaginations (i.e., chocolate covered worms. YUM), but it’s a positive sensory input. We work the play dough through our hands to sculpt and mold whatever we wish.

Below I’ve posted an article that explains how working with play dough hits various developmental targets and gives some ideas for how to spice up your child’s play dough experience.

We were HUNGRY today. Our breakfast of rice cakes with peanut butter and lunch consisting of ham and cheese on whole wheat tortillas were quite a hit. Throughout the day, we have conversations about healthy food choices that we make. Of course, there’s always our prominent ‘Wee Sprouts’ which consist of a veggie from Purple Porch Co-op. When children get hungry during meals, they come up to the island to get a drink of water or eat a couple veggies. Making the right food choices allow us to be the best versions of ourselves.

Good Afternoon!

***Attached to each daily sheet is the time for your child’s conference. There is also another copy that we put up in the science area by the cubbies. We’re all looking forward to conferences! Smile

In pre-k/k group: It was our fourth day in a row where we read a book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Today we read ‘Room on the Broom’ which we’ve read before but it’s been a while. Still, the older children in group remembered the important events in the story and the order in which they happened. We looked at the pictures to preview what the words might say. We have a conversation on almost every page, sharing what our thoughts were on the pictures or what may happen next.

K.RL.3.2: Define the role of the author and illustrator of a story in telling the story.

K.RL.4.1: Describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear.

Maddie sorted shapes this morning based on one characteristic: how many sides the shape had. She found out that there are more four sides shapes than three sided or six sided.

K.G.2: Compare shapes using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, and parts (e.g., number of sides, length of sides, and vertices).

Our building exploration continued as children chose to build by themselves OR…

Engage in cooperative play with their peers, ultimately heading toward a common goal.

Lucy, Anna, and Max worked diligently on two floor puzzles while Ruby and Emma created hot lava using magnets. After they made the hot lava, they had to jump over it without touching it!

Before lunch, Lucy, Maddie, and Anna played a quick game of ‘SORRY!’ together. They communicated on the directions and rules that they had to follow.

Lunch– Brown rice with turkey, PPC banana/oranges, and PPC snap peas/carrots.

Good Afternoon!

This morning our sensory play activity was with shaving cream. We added cars to our play to drive around and make tracks. We were also given a paint brush and some water to pretend we were making our cars dirty with the cream. We then decided to take our cars  through a carwash to get them clean. Mack used imaginative play to pretend he was making eggs with his shaving cream in his bowl of water.

DSCN9282DSCN9273DSCN9274

We also enjoyed stacking our square magnatiles together, as they are our absolute favorite of the tiles and looking at books.
