Hello!

***Just a reminder that SBACC is collecting boxes to make busy boxes for the dogs to give them intellectual stimulation while in the kennels!—(cereal, cracker, kleenex, toilet paper rolls, butter boxes, deodorant boxes, and any other small to medium sized cardboard boxes!). Thanks!!

With the summer coming to an end in the next month or so, many of us (teachers included) will go through varying transitions; leaving to go to another school, leaving/saying good to a friend, or saying goodbye to an environment that has been consistent.

“In caring for children, one thing you can be certain of is change. To change means to transition: changing from one state, stage, place, or subject to another.”

A couple interesting articles on this topic—>

After being gone for so long, our friends made sure they played with their favorite toys and did all the activities they had missed.

They dug through the dress up basket…

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a fantastic summer vacation!

We all got back into the swing of things this morning! We welcomed our newest friend, Grady, who fit right in! He walked in and immediately headed for the cars and building materials. A big welcome to his family, Nathan (Dad), Mandy (Mom) and little brother Mack who is next door at Wee Wee Friends!

We were in a creation mode this morning! Friends used various building materials to express their thoughts and ideas.

The creation station (aka art table) was in high demand this morning. This group conversed with one another and used their listening skills to take into account what others were suggesting.

Sloane and Clara asked for the art easel to be open right after breakfast was cleared off the table. Children waited their turn while their friends finished their projects.

In large group, we read a story titled, ‘The Hole in the Dike’. The story centered around a little boy who was raised in Holland. We were told what a ‘dike’ is; a border like structure that surrounds the water so that it doesn’t come onto land. Turns out, there was a hole in the dike! Friends were captivated as they listened to how it was going to get fixed! The question was asked: ‘How would you fix the hole?’ Many differing answers were given but we explained that everyone’s answer was acceptable and plausible.

We are so happy to be back.

Lunch– Whole grain noodles with red beans, strawberries/bananas, and yellow peppers.

PM snack– Homemade yogurt-fruit pops.

Wee Sprout– Carrots.

Have a great evening!

WF and WWF 6-27-16 Saving Boxes for CARE

Good afternoon!  I wanted to use the blog today to request donations to benefit the animals at South Bend Animal Care and Control (SBACC).  As many of you know, I am the volunteer photographer for our the South Bend shelter.  My daughter Kaitlyn and I spend several hours every week exercising, training, and taking adoption photos.  Kaitlyn and I are officially members of the volunteer group CARE (Community Animal Rescue Effort) http://www.careofsouthbend.org/.  CARE serves SBACC in many valuable ways by providing daily enrichment and exercise to the animals, finding and transporting animals to rescue organizations, working weekly adoption events at the Erskine Petsmart, and raising funds to pay for veterinary care of animals with injuries or illnesses that would otherwise be euthanized.  This is a wonderful group of people passionate to help our city animals.  (And we are always looking for more volunteers!)

Donation Request #1:

As a way to enrich the kennel experience of the dogs, we are building “busy boxes” as an extremely low cost way to give them intellectual stimulation.  This means we need:

  • cardboard boxes of all shapes and sizes (up to 18”x18”) We’d love all of your cereal, cracker, butter, soda, deodorant, and all other smaller cardboard boxes!  You don’t need to break them down!
  • toilet paper and paper towel cardboards
  • We’d take any donations of Pupperoni, the best junk food for dogs to get them interested in and working through the busy boxes.

Donation Request #2:

CARE is holding a garage sale to raise funds in August.  We are collecting donations for this sale.  The money raised will go to the “Hope and Second Chances” emergency vet fund for the shelter animals.  The address of the garage sale and where to make donations is on the flier!

Donation Request #3

If you are an animal lover and would like to donate directly to the cause…http://www.careofsouthbend.org/donate-and-volunteer/#donate

You can like SBACC on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/South-Bend-Animal-Care-and-Control-SBACC-129957831131/

You can search through the photos of our adoptable animals at https://www.southbendin.gov/government/service/adoptable-pets.  If ever you are interested in any of our wonderful adoptable animals, please don’t hesitate to contact me!  I would happily talk to you about what I know about them and offer to join anyone at the shelter to meet animals.  We have marvelous families here at WF and I’d love to see any of our animals go home with a Wee Friender!

Have a great evening!  Tami
