ANNOUNCEMENT. Due to the increase of children bringing toys from home to school, the teachers ask for you to have your child leave those toys at home or in the car. It causes too many problems in the classroom.  Thank you.

Good Afternoon!

We enjoyed picking up and tossing the bean bags into the big block.

DSCN8811DSCN8812

This morning we painted with a loofa using the primary colors. The children enjoyed mixing the colors together to make orange, purple and green. After a while we started to use our fingers to spread our paint around on our papers.

DSCN8813DSCN8823DSCN8826DSCN8821

We all enjoyed building or playing with the magnatiles within our own skill level.

Good Afternoon!

**Housekeeping request: We’ve been having several children bring in toys from home. This is causing problems from time to time so we’re asking that you have your child leave their toys in the car.  Wee Friends offers interactive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate toys for our students to utilize while they’re here. We would greatly appreciate your help with this!

It was a BIG day for our kindergarteners. When Maddie signed into her kindergarten sign in binder, she read the words that I had written which prompted me to get out our BOB books. Shortly after breakfast, her interest peaked which lead to reading the first four BOB books! Not only was she excited and proud of herself, but younger peers watched as she navigated several BOB books.

Another kindergartener is fascinated with dinosaurs and often integrates them into his journaling. Today, he memorized how to spell ‘Psittacosaurus’ which is one of his favorite dinosaurs. His face beamed as he commented, “I didn’t even need to look how to spell it—I remembered!”

Children will learn to read and write when they are ready. What can we do until they are ready?: Support, encourage, nurture, and love them while they come upon these big ‘life’ milestones.

Lucy and Ruby explored a ‘shape matching’ activity at the island this morning. As they matched the shape, we talked about the characteristics of each shape.

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon, parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

Good Afternoon!

We have a student from Ivy Tech who is doing her practicum with us this semester. Miss Katie will be here until the beginning of May!

Max, Lucy, and Anna explored the use of their fine motor skills this morning as they took a wet cotton swab to essentially erase all of the uppercase letters that were written on the chalkboard. Several skills were being used here including fine motor skills, letter recognition, and communication. Lucy, who is an older preschooler, helped Max and Anna when they were unsure of a letter.

K.W.2.1: Write most uppercase and lowercase of the alphabet, correctly shaping and spacing.

DSCN3263DSCN3266DSCN3287

In large group, we read ‘Dinosaur Alphabet Book’. We picked out several words in the story and as a group, we came up with many rhyming words. There were actual words and then a few nonsensical words thrown in there too! Anna said, “I feel like volcano and fire rhyme a little bit.” As a group, we talked about what rhyming words are and what they sound like.

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

DSCN3303

Happy Friday!

In large group, we read ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ which lead us to count the syllables in each of the animals that were a main focus in the story. When we were almost done, a kindergartener said, “Hey! There are three animals so far that have two syllables!”. Hippopotamus was a challenging word for our friends as we really had to focus to find all five syllables in the word.

K.RF.3.2: Orally segment words into syllables.

DSCN3240

Our ‘Music Garden’ class started this morning lead by Miss Melinda! It’s a fifteen week class that eight of our children are apart of. The fifteen week class will focus on all aspects of music.

DSCN3189DSCN3195DSCN3197

While the Music Garden class was going on, the rest of our friends occupied themselves with various activities.

Anna and Maddie matched uppercase letters to lowercase letters using the cardboard box activity. Afterwards, they worked together to find the syllables in several words using clip cards. Anna was having difficulty with the three syllable words so Maddie helped her by showing her how she counts syllables.

K.RF.2.4: Identify and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

K.RF.3.2: Orally segment words into syllables.

The art table was also transformed into a play dough exploration center this morning where things from poisonous worms to hot dogs were created.

Good Afternoon!

Today, we started our morning by looking at a book or building with the magnatiles with a friend.

DSCN8664DSCN8671

Emma and Mack said, “ta da” as they each proudly stood tall on top of their blocks.

DSCN8686DSCN8687

We enjoyed working on our fine motor skills as we drew with our markers.  Emma and Mack went another step further by adding science as they each painted over their marker drawings with water to see what happened! They found out that their colors bled out on their papers.

DSCN8701DSCN8704DSCN8707DSCN8708

Good Afternoon!

The circle table was full of different counting manipulatives this morning. Chloe took the people counters and lined them up in a straight line while counting them with her index finger while Lucy specifically used the bears. She counted them as well while incorporating her own A-B-A-B pattern.

K.NS.4: Perform one to one correspondence tasks.

DSCN3102DSCN3135

Lucy extended her patterns into four rows while focusing on different colored bears to complete her pattern.

DSCN3147DSCN3146

We explored various wonders throughout the environment.

A three year old child used the light coming in from the back door to make various hand puppets on the refrigerator door. He moved his fingers and hand various ways to see how the reflection would change on the refrigerator.

DSCN3114DSCN3118

Grady and Max noticed that when they moved the sensory pillow that we have in the habitrail loft, the sequins made shiny lights throughout the environment. They each took turns moving the pillow around to see where the lights were going to show up.

 DSCN3126DSCN3128

Today, it was the 48 piece puzzles that challenged us. A couple of our friends are transitioning from 24 piece puzzle to ones that challenge us a little bit more!

DSCN3122DSCN3133

Lunch– Brown rice with shredded turkey, PPC banana/clementines, and PPC green beans.

**First reminder: Wee Friends will be closed on Friday, February 16th for conferences. We will be sending out pre-conference forms in the next couple of weeks so that we can get the schedule set! Thanks!

Good Afternoon!

Our friends started the morning off making their own music on the xylophone. They enjoyed tapping the different keys with the mallet and hearing the different sounds of the keys.

DSCN8486DSCN8504DSCN8510

We brought some snow inside for a sensory activity. The friends were given different size scoops to use in their snow.  Aggie brought a ball in to roll around in hers.

DSCN8538DSCN8539DSCN8540

Emma and Mack helped Miss Marty get our painting activity ready. Miss Marty also turned it into a science experience.  She added white paint to the colors, then asked the question, did it turn light or dark? Emma said, “light.”

DSCN8525DSCN8524

To get ready for Valentine’s day we painted some small and large hearts using red, pink and light and dark purple paint. We all used a variety of colors and they turned out beautiful. You can find them hanging up in our classroom bamboo boards.
