WWF Potty Training 101

It has been a busy morning at WWF! The children enjoyed some water play in the kitchen, doing stamp art, dancing, singing, and playing our matching game. We also enjoyed some outdoor time.

We have started some potty training with Sloane, Marta, Elizabeth and Jada. Our timer is set for every 30 minutes, and off to the potty they all willingly go! They are all enthusiastic, and are doing a great job! Thanks to our parents who have encouraged them at home as well. We are off to a great start!

Our breakfast this morning was cinnamon toast, and fresh fruit. Our mid-morning snack was cucumber slices and rice cakes. For lunch today we had ham and cheese on english muffins, cucumbers, and bananas.

It was a very full and busy day here at WWF. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment!

What a great morning! Some of our friends played with our train and car ramps. It was, “ready, set, go” and down the ramp they went! Some of the children enjoyed doing glue, glitter, and paint in the kitchen.

Miss Paulina brought out her guitar, down off the shelf came the drums and maracas, and it was music to our ears! The children played their instruments, and they sang some songs in Spanish, others in English.

After music, some of our official “potty trainers” kept up the wonderful work with a potty break, then outside we went.

Our breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs with cheese, and fresh pears. For lunch today, we had coscous with navy beans, carrots, and fresh fruit.

Just a reminder that your child will need snow pant, boots, hats, and mittens for the winter months. Please label all of their belongings. Temperature permitting, we will be taking the children outside.

Happy sunshine!

WWF, “More apple pie, please!”

It has been a great day here at WWF! It was wonderful to hear about Trick Or Treat, pumpkins, and memories made! Thank you for sharing costumes with us, it is always a fun day!

This morning Marta, Olivia, and Sloane were very busy in our play kitchen, and are amazing chefs! They played wonderfully together, as well as individually. Some of the children enjoyed coloring with markers in the kitchen. Elizabeth was busy playing with her baby dolls, and then Sloane joined in. We also listened to our new CD with nursery rhymes. The children enjoyed dancing and singing along. After that, it was a morning walk. How nice to finally have some sun, and to be able to do that! We then shared some outside exploration. Pee Kay and Clara enjoyed a lot of floor time and crawling all around and enjoying their play time.

Our breakfast this morning was whole wheat toast and fresh fruit. For lunch today, we enjoyed cheese tortillas, fresh squash, and apples. Marta kept asking for more “apple pie!” Sure wish we would have had some, but our fresh cut apples worked out just fine!

Here are some “highlights” of our day….

WWF Daily Explorations, “How low can you go?” 10-31-1

It has been a “spooktacular” day here at WWF. We started our morning with some more “Ooey Gooey” fun in a tub in the kitchen. It consisted of glue, paint, and cornstarch. What a fun mess! Some of the children opted for something a little less messier, and decorated some pumpkins with markers. Others opted for some sensorial fun with various Halloween items.

We also put on some Halloween music, and danced like crazy! It was a perfect time to learn the Limbo. Sloane, an expert “Limboer!” led the group. They all joined in! From there, we were on to the “Hokey Pokey.” After that we, grabbed a witches hat, or a Halloween pail, and danced to some more songs.

For breakfast we had cinnamon toast and fresh fruit and milk. For our hid-morning snack, we had carrots. Our lunch today was tuna and whole wheat noodles, vegetable medley and pears.

Just a reminder that as the cold weather is approaching, your child will need boots, snow pants, a hat and mittens. Please label all of your children’s items, and bring them in a bag labeled with your child’s name.

Despite the rain, have a “boo”tiful day!

WWF Daily Explorations, Friday 10.27.11

Happy Friday!!

Halloween brings an opportunity to expose children to a whole new set of sensorial and cognitive experiences that are unsual. Yesterday we bagun with squirting orange paint on a tub filled with corn starch. Dripping, squeezing, stiring and orange, were some of the words that the children heard and repeated the most doing this activity. In the afternoon, we filled another sensory tub, this time with halloween decorations, plastic spiders, rings, skuls, bats and snakes were some of the items. We conversed with children naming, describing, counting and transferring the objects into buckets that let us sort as well. We also sung and danced to halloween songs. Our favorite cd right now is Marcia Louis’ Mr. Bones!

WWF Daily Explorations, Ooey Gooey, fun! 10-27-11

Our morning started with some music and dancing. We listened to a CD that Eleanor brought in to share with us. Chloe and Ozzie are now part of our regular dancing, and Chloe has added some real spin to her moves!

005

Some of our friends were in the kitchen mxing up some “Ooey Gooey” fun. Cornstarch and paint were poured into a tub, some spoons distributed to mix it all up, and the children had so much fun with it. Others were at the jungle gym where we constructed a fort out of some silky material. We had sensorial activity all through WWF! Max, Jada, Sloane and Ozzie packed up their suitcases full of various different items, then jumped in the ball pit to drive to their destination. They used some of our plastic rings for steering wheels. Some of the children enjoyed doing some art while decorating pumpkins.

As the weather is changing, we might suggest bringing in extra pants and shirts, as some of the children get wet and muddy during our outside exploration. Also, please do not send your child in any “dress clothes” or shoes that might get soiled. We are getting close to the point where we will need boots, snow pants, extra socks, hats and mittens. We do go outside in the winter, temperature permitting. You may start bringing these items in any time you wish. Please label boots as we often have duplicates. Below is a picture of our children sitting so nicely to wait for a teacher to open the garage to get out our toys!

For breakfast this morning we had cereal and fresh fruit. Our hid-morning outside snack was carrots. For lunch today, we had cheese tortillas, sweet potatoes and bananas.

All of us are wishing Miss Marty a speedy recovery, as she just can’t seem to shake the illness she had last week. We hope she is getting plenty of rest, and taking her vitamins! A special thank you to Miss Amy, who always seems to be available when we need her.

Have a heart-filled day!

WWF Daily Explorations, 10-25-11 “The more we read, the more we know!”

001

We had a great morning inside WWF. The children enjoyed pulling so many of our books off the shelves, reading them side by side, together as a group, or with a teacher. We sure made Dr. Seuss proud!

003

004

The children also exercised some of their gross motor skills by attempting our obstacle course through the tunnel, then climbing up the jungle gym, and down the slide. One of our fellow WWF overcame their fear of feeling claustrophobic in the tunnel, and continued on like a trooper! It was so great to see the self-confidence in this child evolve. Some of our friends did some painting, while others concentrated on moving all different sizes, and colors of fuzz balls from one basket to another using tongs. This helped the children to recognize the concepts of large and small, learning math skills by counting, and colors. What fun!

005

Our outside time was spent by singing songs and playing “Follow the leader, and of course, doing our “Criss Cross, Apple sauce” song while we wait patiently near the garage for our bikes, and push toys.

For breakfast this morning we had cereal with fresh cut apples. Our mid-morning snack was carrots. For lunch today we had rice with pulled roast beef, cucumbers, and avocado, bananas and raisins. The cucumbers in particular were a big hit!

007

As you can see from today’s photos, even on a cloudy day, these wee one’s keep smiling the sunshine!

WWF, Fun Friday! 10-21-11

Our morning started with some mural coloring. We had a large piece of paper taped to the bottom of the table where the children could color on. Ozzie and Marta were coloring in the “fort.” Some of the younger children were a little intimidated by being under the table, so we simply turned the table over. By this point, some markers were added to the “mix.”

012

We also had some story time this morning, followed by a CD and book. It was so nice to go outside today! The children played in the sand, rode the bikes, and simply enjoyed the fresh air!

Our breakfast this morning was toast and fresh apple slices. For lunch today we had egg salad, squash, and pears.

Here is wishing our little Clara and Chloe a speedy recovery! We missed them today!

WWF, The Wheels on the WWF Bus! 10-20-11

It might have been raining outside, but our WWF’s had a pretend bus going on inside, and the sun was shining brightly in here! Elizabeth, Marta, Oliva and Sloane had their baby dolls ready to go. Ozzie and Miss Paulina got the big climbing blocks, turned them over, and they instantly turned into bus seats! Purses in tow, and other essentials, everyone was seated and ready to sing the “The Wheels On The Bus.”

Ozzie was busy with trains and cars, using our felt board that has roads on it. His trains were used to go under tunnels, down tracks, and wherever his little imagination took him. Olivia was busy on the slide, playing with her baby dolls, dancing to some of our favorite songs, and enjoyed rice play in the kitchen. Sloane had a great morning with her baby dolls, dancing and lots of spins, books, and climbing up and down our junge gym. Eleanor loved her rice play this morning with dump and fill, full and empty, and enjoying some books to read alone or with a teacher. Jada is an avid fan of the jungle gym and enjoyed using her imagination with some dramatic play, and rice play as well. Welcome back to Marta, who jumped right in, especially on playing house with the babies! Elizabeth enjoyed her morning as well, as she kept busy for quite some time with rice play as well.

“BINGO” continues to be a new WWF favorite. The children love their maracas to shake during music time. Another favorite seems to be “Five Little Monkeys” and doing the motions to it.

For breakfast we had cereal with fresh fruit, and our mid morning snack was chick-peas, and for lunch we had rice with shredded pork, peas and fresh pears.

This afternoon we will do some coloring in the kitchen. Our imaginations and creativity will run wild!

Enjoy the day!
