WWF, I Can Take Off My Shoes!, 2-8-2012

Good Afternoon!

**We just wanted to inform all of the families that we are going to start offering a late afternoon snack. This snack will consist only of vegetables. It will be offered but not required for the children to eat if they’re not hungry at this time. This snack will be offered between 4:30 and 5:00 daily. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

We started off our day at WWF with play-dough. A track was made on the kitchen table where kids could take trains or cars and use the play-dough track. They loved the feeling of the play-dough and had a great time making sure that the cars and trucks stayed within the play-dough. We introduced some objects such as straws and marker tops for the kids to poke into the play-dough. Concentration was high while our friends drove their cars and trucks trying to make sure that they didn’t bump their car into the play-dough barrier!

After the trains and cars left the station, we indulged in music time. We started off with welcoming all of our friends to music time. Each child loved hearing their name and singing along to the music. The kids worked with drums, music shakers, scarves, and ribbons. A few children chose to interact with the music and the instruments while others chose to enjoy the sounds from a distance, whether they were reading books or playing on the jungle gym observing their surroundings.

However, the cold started getting to all of us. So, we decided to come in which was right in time for lunch. Lunch was a favorite today! Ms. Tami made rice with chicken (which was gone by the end of lunch), mixed fruit including pineapple, banana, and oranges, and finally mixed vegetables including asparagus, carrots, broccoli, and peas. Our afternoon snack will be muffins and the late afternoon snack will be a vegetable.

Hello!

We started our day off at WWF by conducting hands on experiences involving ice that was shaped like hearts. The kids loved playing with the ice and feeling it on their fingers. They could tell whether the ice was hot or cold. They also used the sense of taste by sucking on the ice cubes. Our friends loved how it slid around on the table! While a few of our friends were experimenting with the ice cubes, the rest of the kids were in the living room listening to music. We were jumping, stomping, and twirling to the different songs.

003

006

After the ice activity was over, our friends gathered in the living room to have music time. This involved singing and dancing. While the music was playing, children helped by playing the drums and shaking bean bags. They added another talent by twirling scarves around while the music was played. While learning about bears during music time, our friends went on a bear hunt. They came across different textures such as a fluffy green blanket, a rug, and foam tiles. A lot of our friends went through the tunnel and snuck into the bear cave. While having the bear hunt the kids got on all fours and walked around the living room like bears looking for food.

Following music time came outside adventures! The children got bundled up to go outside and say hello to their Wee Friends! Some chose to ride bikes and cars while others chose to play in the sand or swing on the swing set. After being outside for a while, we all started to get cold. So, we came inside for lunch!

Today’s lunch was a hit. All we heard was, ‘more’! :). We started out with pita bread with cream cheese, shredded cheese, and ham on top. Then came the fruits and vegetables which included corn and pears.

Hope everyone has a fantastic evening!

Happy Friday!

We started off our day here at WWF by exploring ice cubes that had paint in them. The activity was a Valentines Day theme. Ice cubes were made in the shape of a heart and had pink paint added to them. The kids loved exploring the ice cube, especially when it turned from a solid to a liquid. Of course the question of the ‘taste sense’ came into play! Our friends were tasting the ice cube and using their sense of touch to see what it felt like. Some children chose to transfer the ice cubes from container to container and found that the ice cubes were rather slippery. Our friends were engaged through their senses for quite some time!

After the ice melted, we moved onto music time. We sang songs and stomped, walked, and ran around the room with the help of Miss Marty to show us what each movement looked like. A child suggested that we read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom so we pulled out the book along with the CD and sang along with the song. The bears made another appearance here at the WWF house but didn’t stay too long. Again, they looked for berries and were picking them from berry bushes! We even got to go inside the bears white cave! The kids loved walking around inside of it and pretending they were taking a nap! The children love acting out different roles and acting as a bear seems to be right at the top of their list!

We ventured outside after getting all bundled up. A few friends gathered up and went to the swing where they talked and swung back and forth. Others chose to play in the sand castle where they were scooping sand with a shovel and transferring it to a bucket. Everyone had a great time outside! There was a lot of running which of course made the children hungry!

After running outside, we decided to come inside where lunch was ready for us! Our friends enjoyed chicken and cheese tortillas made with pita bread, bananas, and peas. By the end of the meal, the bananas and peas were gone! Our friends was sure hungry today! 🙂

Hope everyone has a terrific weekend!

WWF, White Canopy of Fun! 2-2-2012

033

Hello!

We started off our day here at WWF with mat play! Children chose to work with shapes and blocks on individual mats in the living room. The kids love to use the tongs to pick up the hearts and put them into different cups and bins. Our friends chose to use the shapes in multiple ways. A few chose to stack the shapes while others chose to build with the shapes. It is strengthening their fine motor skills which is tremendous! Other children chose to work with the light table and the colored magnets. They love stacking up the magnets to see how high they will go.

The white canopy was brought out and the kids had a blast standing under it as it went up and down. Our friends were having so much fun! We wish there was an audio button so families could hear how much fun we were all having :). Of course those pesky bears came back to the WWF house and were roaming around the living room. We heard growling and snorting! Our friends loved walking on all fours around the living room, looking for fish to eat.

WWF, Bear On the Loose! 2-1-2012

Good Afternoon!

Hope that everyone is having a great day! We started off our morning here at WWF by welcoming a new sensory manipulative to the house! We now have red tinsel along with strands of silver that the kids can manipulate whether it be by hand or with using a utensil. Everyone loved how it felt and looked! A few children also went to the kitchen table to play with different shaped hearts for Valentines Day that Miss Paulina generously brought in.

Then, we started music time! The children loved playing with the shakers. One of the kids brought Miss Paulina a book and we ended up singing the song that was in the back of the book! The kids loved the new song. While reading some stories about bears, the WWF house turned into the outdoors where children were walking on fours, pretending to be bears! They were making sounds like a bear and they even used a white piece of cloth as props! The activity started off by a white cloth being held by two teachers while the children stood underneath. The white cloth would be moved up and down which the children loved to see and feel. We used it as a parachute that then turned into a river where they bear crawled.

WWF, Outside Fun Time! 1-31-2012

Hello!

We started off our morning here at WWF having music time. The children loved running, walking, and stomping around the room depending on the type of instructions that were being given. The drums were a big hit today. While throwing the balls out of the ball pit, children sang along with Miss Paulina. Children kept asking for ‘more’ after the song was done. One could tell that the music shakers were alive and well today based upon the sounds that the children were making! It was great to see everyone participating in some way or another :). After music time, children chose to go into the kitchen where they worked with different shapes and materials. They even worked with a construction paper book that was made for each child!

001

002

003

After music time, we ventured outside into the wonderful sunshine! It was so great to walk outside in January and have the sun shining on your face. The children must have enjoyed themselves because we stayed outside for more than one hour! While outside, children enjoyed playing in the rocks and stones. Children started singing ‘ring around the rosie’ and would fall into the pebbles. Some children also chose to swing and ride tricycles with their friends. It was a great opportunity for children to socialize with others or to go off and play independently. Even though some of us got a little dirty or muddy, it was well worth it!

WWF, Fun in the Sun! 1-27-2012

Good Afternoon!

Hope everyone is having a great day! We started off our day at WWF with some different activities that children could choose from. A few children chose to build a train track throughout the entire living room. The kids had a great time putting the pieces together and then put the trains on the track that they built. A few children chose to go into the kitchen and work with the sensory table. Our friends are still loving the combination of flour, chocolate, and coffee. They are coming up with more ways to use the sensory table. Today, a few children started throwing the mixture up in the air to see what would happen when it dropped.

We continued with our morning by having some music time. The kids were shown an example of different physical moves such as jump, stomp, run, wiggle, and walk. This example was extremely beneficial for them in the sense that they can now connect the word with the movement. They did this while the guitar was being played.

Before lunch, we enjoyed the sunshine outside! We were so happy that it was a nice day out. We gathered up our friends and traveled outside. Most of our friends went straight to the swing. Miss Paulina sat with our friends and sang to them while they were swinging. Some chose to grab a partner and tetter-totter together or go and ride on a tricycle. The half an hour we spent outside was a great way to end our week!

For lunch, our friends enjoyed ham with cream cheese, green peas, oranges, and bread. Every minute or so our friends were asking for “more oranges please!” 🙂

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

WWF, Coffee Smelling Up the House!, 1-26-2012

Happy Rainy Afternoon!

002

While it’s been rainy outside, it’s been a sunny, fun time here at WWF! We started off our day with an excellent sensorial activity. Nutmeg, flour, coffee, chocolate, and all-spice where added together to make an interactive powder that was put in a big tub. Children could smell it, dump it, or sift it. It enriched the air and left the house smelling great all morning! Our friends loved pouring it and seeing what would happen if it was blown in the air. It was a great ‘messy’ but FUN project :).

005

013

027

065

016

We continued our morning with music. Music time turned into a throwing exercise using the plastic balls from the ball pit. Children were eagerly throwing the balls to each other or to see how far they could throw it. It was a great interactive exercise that allowed children to use their gross motor skills. At the end of the activity, the ball pit was emptied and it was plastic ball mania in the WWF house!

Children then decided to go into the kitchen to color and to again play in the sensory container. Some children chose to get books out to read. Pooh Bear and Baby Beluga were among the favorites of the morning. Before lunch was served, a few children gathered in the living room to work with velt letters and numbers. We are beginning to identify the letters and numbers and in the context that they are used. For example, children were able to identify that Ellie started with ‘E’ or Marty started with ‘M’.
