Good Afternoon!

**The weather forecast is calling for HOT weather next week. Please make sure that your child has his or her swimsuit here next week as we will most likely do water play at least one day! Thanks!

For morning sign in and during large group, we focused on our community and the places that are available to us.

After reading ‘Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose’, we talked about how Thidwick helped his friends by giving him a place to live on his antlers. So, we had a discussion about who helps us; police officers, doctors, and chefs! When a friend would offer a suggestion such as ‘bug finder’, we would talk about how that person helps us.

The multi-age classroom is a wonderful thing. This is just ONE of the relationships that we saw this morning that involved a younger friend and an older friend. Addi and Rosemary talked for a while, discussing their favorite food, what they like to do for fun, and how important ‘hugging’ is Smile. As teachers, we often learn from them while they learn from us. It’s the same with our friends; each child brings something so important to the table each and every day that is different from their peers.

We all have had different experiences and adventures in our young lives that make the classroom such a rich and loving learning environment full of different ways of thinking.

I’ve attached an awesome blog by Teacher Tom that goes into the history of single aged classrooms vs multi age classrooms. He also shares his thoughts based on his own personal experience in the field.

We brought down all the stackers this morning for friends to pay with together. Everyone did a great job taking turns and helping each other put all the pieces together.

When we went outside, we saw construction trucks going up and down the alley. There were excited yells of “big truck!”, “loud truck!”, and demands to see more trucks when a truck drove out of sight. When we didn’t see or hear any more coming, friends all ran to the log house to play with the toy construction trucks.

Good Afternoon!

In large group, we started discussing places in our community that we’re familiar with. After reading ‘Farmer Duck’ and ‘The Market’, we connected these two businesses, farming and the farmers market. Friends started listing all of the fruits and vegetables that the farmers market sells. I asked them where the fruits and vegetables come from; they responded “the farm!”

We came up with a web of community places including the farmers market, Target, and the zoo!

The art easel was busy as friends painted several creations with different colors of paint.

Lucy and Anna requested the wooden connect 4 game. Anna put in the red pieces and Lucy put in the black pieces. Once they were done putting the pieces in, they counted each color to see which had more.

Scissors, straws, labels, and markers were just a few materials that were used at the art table this morning. Children love being able to choose what they work with AND what they ultimately create.

Miss Kaylee added several toys to the outside environment today! We explored with goggles, nets, and bug containers. We LOVED them!

Happy Friday!

The art table was buzzing this morning as an open ended activity was started. We used three materials; paper, paint, and brushes. A regular paint brush and a circular sponge were used with five different colors of paint to make things ranging from a window to a volcano! There was no format for what friends had to make; we want creations that are individual to each child.

“A child isn’t thinking about whether their painting is good enough. They’re just enjoying painting.”

Miss Kaylee headed up an activity outside involving the parachute! We played many different parachute games including fast/slow movement, ball control, and ‘hide and seek’. The parachute activity kept our interest for quite some time as we continued to find new things to do with it! Talk about a team effort to keep the balls on top of the parachute.

Please note: Wee Friends will be closed June 29th-July 7th for our summer break.

This morning we painted with stampers and sponges that were all different shapes. This was an opportunity for friends to learn how to recognize shapes by pressing colorful triangles, circles, and squares onto their paper.

When we went outside we were excited to see the big kids playing with a parachute. Mack and Sophia joined in and had a blast playing the games Miss Kaylee introduced.

Good Afternoon!

*Reminder: Wee Friends is closed for summer vacation starting Thursday, June 29th and will reopen Monday, July 10th. Thanks!

This morning, we used our hands in a variety of ways; painting, puzzles, and play dough (our three favorite p’s).

The older group went to the farm (and met Jackson, Max, and their mom Dixie there) and the first thing we got to experience was a horse getting it’s hooves trimmed! We stood by and watched as this was happening and afterwards, we got to hold the tools that were used (they were HEAVY!).

Fun fact: Did you know that ground horse hooves are in the following foods?: jelly, jam, and Jell-O!

We stopped and said hi to the turkey chicks that we delivered a couple weeks back. Boy, have they grown! They went from sharing one cage to now having to use all three cages!

P6010410

There was not a cloud in the sky this morning which was fabulous weather for a good run around the farm. Once we got out into open spaces, we were free to run and get out our energy in a positive way.

P6010415P6010417

Of course, we had to stop and get a few swings in at our favorite place!

P6010423P6010425

We walked up toward the farm and Miss Charlotte told us that we could head to the garden and pick some strawberries! Each friend picked two to three strawberries before heading to the sink outside to clean them off.

P6010442P6010446P6010450

Our younger group had met Miss Charlottes snake and our older friends were a little envious. So, they politely went up to the house and rang the door bell. “Can we please met your snake?”, they asked. A couple of our friends took turns holding the snake. We learned a couple things about the snake:

1. The snake only eats every three to four weeks (a couple mice do the trickSmile).

2. This specific snake was a vertebrae. We got to feel it’s spine and ribs.

3. It’s a cold blooded animal, different from most mammals who are warm blooded.

Breakfast– Homemade oatmeal pancakes and strawberries.

Lunch– Brown rice with cheese, apples, and cauliflower.

PM snack– Graham crackers and pumpkin seeds.

Wee Sprout– Cucumber/carrots.

Have a great evening!
