Two new toys have been added to the Wee Wee classroom! They are Grimm’s Large Rainbow Conical and Triangular Towers. They are stacking/sorting toys that stimulate children visually and mentally.

Our friends used reasoning and creative thinking while developing motor skills and hand-eye coordination. These are also helpful tools to learn colors, size, and ordering!

WF Tuesday 10/6

*Announcement: Group A [Elizabeth, Elliott, Emerson, Daniel, Jackson, Clara, Addi, Eren] will be going to the farm tomorrow, Wednesday October 7th.

Good afternoon!

This morning started with an exploration of the pegs. Friends used them in many different ways: sorting them by color, stacking a tower, fitting each peg into a hole and creating a pyramid with every single peg! Open ended materials like these, that can be used in multiple ways, engage friends of multiple ages.

Outside today it was all about the slide and the bikes!

Friends experimented going down the slide in different ways: feet first, on their stomachs and fast or slow. Even a seemingly simple activity such as going down a slide helps children build body awareness and gross motor skills.

This morning friends waited patiently while the teachers got the bikes out of the garage:

058

Then they got to riding!

070073

So many friends wanted to ride today, there were some traffic jams!

072

But all that exercise was good for our bodies and helped us concentrate during group time after lunch. We love hearing stories about fall!

Kindergarten: Today with swimming lessons, Elliott and Elizabeth completed their kindergarten work separately, each working on a habitrail log of one of their creations. Elliott chose to work with the tiles and created “a wall with steps” while Elizabeth recorded her work with blocks, animals and the farm house. The practice of drawing from real life objects helps improve observational skills and supports the notion that their work is important and deserves recording!

Happy Monday!

Pumpkins and bugs. That was our focus this morning. We had a parent AND a teacher bring in small pumpkins for our friends to decorate!

We had a discussion about small, medium, and big. We used multiple pumpkins as our objects. Friends put the pumpkins next to each other and a conversation was had about the characteristics between the pumpkins.

002017

Each child chose their pumpkin and the color they wanted to use to paint their pumpkin. The end result was very individualized to each child Smile.

While outside, we were SUPER focused on bugs. Finding them. Caring for them. Creating a habitat for them.

WF 10/2 Our Trip to the Apple Orchard!

This morning we traveled to Springhope Farm to pick apples. Enjoy these pictures from our trip!

059

Our first stop was to watch the apple cleaning machine in action. The little apples get sorted from the big ones, are polished and then dried.

Next, each friend got an apple picking bag of their very own.

010

We saw a tractor in the barn and then got to ride on another one out to the apple trees.

WF Thursday 10/1

Happy 1st Day of October!

This morning started off with a group meeting to predict what was in this large package that arrived at Wee Friends. After some interesting ideas, ranging from “bananas” to “bricks,” we discovered it was a pump for our bicycles!

021022023025

We took turns pumping air and feeling it on our hands:

028029

Afterwards, we had another community matter to discuss: what to do with our pumpkins?! The teachers narrowed down our ideas from yesterday to three options we could vote on: Carve It, Pound It, and Bake Seeds. After some time to think, friends came up to graph their vote.

030032035

In the end we decided we could do all three options, pound one pumpkin and then carve and bake the seeds of the other pumpkin. As one friend pointed out, in order to bake the seeds, we’d have to cut it anyways! Because pounding the pumpkin got the most votes (eight) we started with that work.

042054

We love choosing where to hammer in our golf tees!

062068

Outside, the fallen leaves have proven to be very interesting to the Wee Frienders! Filling trucks with leaves, making leaf piles and sweeping leaves have been popular choices this week.

078083097081080

Kindergarten: Today Elizabeth and Elliott were introduced to the symbols for “less than” and “greater than” through a game involving an alligator/shark. Although learning about these symbols were not specifically mentioned in this week’s math FAB, the kindergarteners have been doing so well identifying greater than and less than values Jessica wanted to give them a challenge.
