WF Wednesday 8/5

This morning started off with a plethora of puzzles! Friends worked with a variety of wood, foam and magnet puzzles, displaying persistence until they found exactly where the pieces fit.

Later, the sand sensory bin was a popular choice, with friends mixing, pouring and measuring the sand. Today’s sand creation of choice was making “cinnamon!”

Good Afternoon!

Our food delivery came earlier than expected today! Friends were a big help this morning as they wanted to pitch in to put everything away.

001002

It was a big morning in the habitrail area as a couple of our friends went down the pole for the first time unassisted! Sloane was a big motivator as they came down the pole with BIG smiles on their faces.

032033

Daniel and Owen focused in on the art area as they worked to make masks. Owen chose to color his mask while Daniel cut out holes for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Every creation that our friends make is truly different and specific to each child.

034035

A play-dough sensory activity was made available at the art table this morning. Using tools such as spatula, rolling pin, and cookie cutouts, friends made different creations using the play-dough on their tray.

For breakfast, children had chex and blackberries. Lunch consisted of hummus sandwiches, PPC tomatoes/cucumbers, and PPC strawberries/blackberries. We enjoyed a special afternoon snack: homemade whole wheat fig newtons! We got a good sized batch of figs from PPC so we baked up a treat during naptime! They were delicious! Our wee sprout for the day was cucumbers.

WF Monday 8/3 Freshly-Squeezed Orange Juice

This afternoon for snack we did something a little different. Instead of having orange slices, we decided to make orange juice! First, we cut the oranges in half. Then we squeezed as much juice as we could out of the oranges before pouring it into our glasses.

Besides challenging our small motor movements, this work provided an opportunity for friends to take a close look at oranges. We compared what the orange looked like before and after we squeezed and noticed how sticky your hands get when working with oranges. This experience also prompted many conversations about pulp and seeds and answering “what happens if you drink a little bit of a seed?!”

Making orange juice takes a lot of concentration!

The results were delicious!

WF Wednesday 7/29

*Announcement: Tomorrow, Thursday July 30th,  we will be taking a field trip to the Potawatomi Park SPLASH PAD! We will leave promptly at 9:30 am and be back around 11:15. Please sign the permission slip tonight at pick-up or tomorrow at drop-off. And as always, if any parents would like to come along, you are more than welcome to join! It is going to be a wonderful day to get a little wet!

Today has been a jam-packed day full of exploration and learning. Here are a few pictures from throughout our day.

Oftentimes, the unlikeliest of materials become the most entertaining. Yesterday and today friends experimented with a huge roll of masking tapes that were delivered to the house.

078081

The tape rolls acted like a slinky, tunnel, and much more!

076

This morning started off with a huge game of “guess the object”. Melinda offered clues and descriptions of the objects while friends had to guess the object and say what category it belongs in. Example: “This is something cold that we drink during breakfast…” “Milk!” “What category does milk belong in?” “Food!”

Later, friends were invited to participate in a stained glass cutout art activity.

First, they punched out the cutouts and glued the frame to their paper.

Next, they used watercolors to paint their “stained glass”. Check out the finished artwork on the clothesline in the art room!

Outside we discovered tomatoes ripe for picking (and eating) and a sunflower taller than Clara and Owen:
