Hello, everyone!

We’d like to welcome Truman to the Wee Wee group. Today was his first day here without mom!

Anna, Annabelle, and Rosemary played together in the sandbox this morning. They would scoop up the sand to put in containers, or pour it onto the logs and brush it back off.

Rosemary asked for the swing to be brought out and enjoyed relaxing in it while being pushed.

WF Monday 7/13

Welcome back! We are so glad to have the Wee Frienders back together. Today was an exciting day as we celebrated Ellie’s birthday that was over the break. Friends helped create a special “6” card that included drawings of her favorite character Baymax. Happy Birthday Ellie!

029028

Today we played with friends in housekeeping, worked at the art table and figured out tricky puzzles.

024

021026

There were also some wonderful additions to the backyard that Tami made over the break. Friends eagerly took turns painting outside!

049

The addition of a cobblestone patio and path makes running through the yard even better.

066

The new spaces have already gotten a lot of use!

WF Wednesday 7/1

Happy July!

As our summer break approaches, it was time to let our butterflies free! Friends gathered around the grass circle to watch.

025039

Two immediately left their habitat and fluttered up towards the sky, while the two other butterflies seemed reluctant. Even with the mesh door wide open the butterflies made no move towards freedom. We took this opportunity to take a closer look at the Painted Ladies.

029034

Eventually they all left. While none of the butterflies stayed near to visit or land on any friends, it was still a neat experience watching the butterflies we had observed since they were caterpillars fly off into the air. So long butterflies!

031

The weather has been gorgeous today and we took advantage of it by spending lots of time outside. The sandbox was a popular spot and many friends took off their shoes to feel the sand between their toes. Friends made and created all sorts of things from “banana ice cream” to “an underground house” in the sand.

076050

Friends also spent time looking for bugs and creating at the art table.

060065

And with the rain subsiding we were finally able to bring out the bikes and baby dolls.

It’s been a great day. Enjoy the summer break! We will see you on Monday, July 13th.

WF Monday 6/29

Children are full of natural creativity. Our Wee Frienders demonstrate this fact every day! We have had our new backyard area, complete with a circle of different size rocks and stones, for a few weeks now. Yet friends are still coming up with new ways to use these materials.

Today Owen and Aislinn started balancing rocks and created some very neat arrangements.

061071

067069

Tate observed the older children working with the rocks and decided to try it out for himself. Inspiration is all around in a multi-age classroom.

068

Their work reminded me of an artist named Michael Grab who is very skilled at balancing stones. Check out one of his videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JykJrVbCMuM

Today Sloane and Elizabeth decided to teach Wee Frienders how to make a caterpillar, just like they learned at camp last week! First, they made a list of the materials they needed. Next, they gathered all the supplies. Then, step-by-step, they taught friends how to create a caterpillar with paper, glue, and pipe cleaners.

011012020013

The exploration of caterpillars was especially relevant because over the weekend our caterpillars emerged from their chrysalises as beautiful butterflies! We have had lots of enjoyment observing their wing colors and their tongues as they eat the sugar water and oranges we put in their habitat.

006008

We will be releasing the butterflies outside on Wednesday as a last hurrah before summer break!

Happy Monday. –Jessica

Today was also exciting as this afternoon, one of the chrysalises hatched! We are still waiting to see the butterfly fully open its wings and fly.
