Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a terrific long weekend.

“Play is the work of the child.”—Maria Montessori

So that’s what we did. Friends scattered throughout the environment this morning while they became involved in specific activities that peaked their interest. Tate worked with the teapots. As he adjusted the lids and put them on the stove, he touched the stove and said, “HOT!” As friends play, they take certain previous knowledge that they have such as Mommy or Daddy saying to watch the stove because it is hot and use it in their play.

Lucy headed straight for the sandbox where she worked on building castles that she’s been fascinated with! Tate and Rosemary joined her and the three of them worked together for quite a long time.

Have a lovely night.

WF Monday 4/6 Mixed Up Letters & Silly Phrases

Today has been a day full of silly words and sillier phrases! When Eleanor was reading her Elsa book during quiet-time, she found a funny section in which Olaf the Snowman (who doesn’t know how to spell) mixed up the letters in Anna’s birthday banner.

032

We decided to recreate the sign ourselves! We started with Happy Birthday Anna:

041

Then we rearranged the letters while sounding out the words:

043

045

And came up with the very silly phrase: “dry banana hippy hat”!

Who knew words could be so funny?! Have a great Monday. –Jessica

Happy Thursday!

Friends used their nurturing skills this morning as they played pretend with baby dolls. Maya showed Rosemary how to burp a baby after they’ve been fed. Children pick up actions from parents and teachers among other people in their life. Friends watch as teachers feed their baby friends and transfer that knowledge into their play.

IMG_6560IMG_6561IMG_6563

The rings and sensory tubes were made available this morning as friends listened to music. Maya and Rosemary watched intently as the materials fell from one end to the other once the tube was tipped.

IMG_6574IMG_6575

We dashed outside before the rain started. Thankfully we were able to get a lot of time before the rain came.

We are waiting. Preparing. Keeping busy. Looking for it. We smell it in the air. We hear it in our laughter and in the chirping of birdies (and even our impatient restlessness!). It’s coming and going this time of year. But we’ll wait. Spring. Have a terrific three day weekend. –Laurie

WF Wednesday 4/1 Pickles Galore

This week, we had a TON of cucumbers in our delivery from the Purple Porch. What to do with all these cucumbers? Let’s make pickles!

This morning started out with a discussion about what makes a pickle. We had some unique suggestions but finally figured it out: a cucumber. After a taste test of jarred pickles, both dill and sweet, we took a vote on which one friends preferred. The current count is DILL- 8 and SWEET- 6. We will take another vote after we taste test our own pickles.

Happy April!

We spent a beautiful morning outside! Friends started with hats and we quickly were able to take them off! It was quite the active morning outside. We saw two airplanes and heard a fire truck and train! Children were definitely able to use their senses.

IMG_6470IMG_6478

Friends loved playing ‘catch’ outside with friends and teachers! Our hand eye coordination is steadily improving!

IMG_6487IMG_6494IMG_6495

Nahla and Lucy were very determined to climb up the log in between the two slides. They did this multiple times! Gross motor at its finest Smile.

IMG_6498IMG_6500IMG_6503

It was tandem teeter totter this morning!

IMG_6509IMG_6511

We were wore out. Sleep does the toddler body good!

IMG_6554IMG_6555

For breakfast, children had kix and oranges. Lunch consisted of hummus on tortillas, cauliflower, and banana. PM snack was pretzels and raisins.

WF Tuesday 3/31 Dance Party!

*Reminder: Wee Friends will be closed Friday, April 3rd in observance of Good Friday.

New toys often generate a lot of interest. This week’s most interesting toy is our new music box record player! It plays a variety of songs and friends love switching out the records and changing volume.

056 063

Elliott decided to have a dance party with the record player and wrote out invitations:

                               079

We love dancing!

066

This morning we also read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. If you read that book to Wee Friends, they’re going to want to make their own cookies! We got out the play dough and got to work.

**Just as a reminder, it is a short week here at WWF. We will be closed on Friday, April 3rd in observance of Good Friday. Thanks!

Friends worked together this morning to build with waffle blocks. A big hit was building a cube. Maya built a track with her blocks. Lucy pointed out the different colored blocks she had.

IMG_6362IMG_6363IMG_6365

WF Monday 3/30

Among the many works that emerged today was alphabetizing letters. (FAB K.1.19- Learn and apply knowledge of alphabetical order (first letter) when using a classroom or school library/media center)

015

To support Jessica’s library book read alouds, we invited friends to make library cards to stamp with every book they read. The library cards sparked some interest, but the shape stampers definitely did.

019

Under the habitrail, friends investigated through movement the many ways their bodies could move on a straight/zigzag/squiggly line.

020

Have a great Monday! –Laurie
