WF Wednesday 8/6 The Paperbag Princess

“Dragon! Is it true that you can burn up ten forests with your fiery breath? “Oh yes!” said the dragon, and he took a huge, deep breath and breathed out so much fire that he burnt up fifty forests.

004

We’ve read the book so many times this week, were losing track. Wee Friends love it! The Paperbag Princess by Robert Munsch. Each read thru has brought to the surface different interests. Today’s interest  landed on the dragon and his fiery breath.

037

We created a dragon mural with the head cut out. We invited friends to wear a paper bag. “Do you remember what happened in the book? What would you like to say to the dragon? To the Princess?” Fiery dragon breath was spewed out, bubbled out, pushed out, roared out.

058

Ohhh!!!! Stinky breath! Sweet smelling breath? Let’s explore! We ate bites of different foods and then breathed into our friend’s noses! What do you smell?

015

Jessica saved the day and repaired a guitar string! Friends watched closely and continued playing the guitars.

Good Afternoon!

Today consisted of rain (boo!) which meant we spent our morning inside. A couple friends chose to work with puzzles while some of us built a train track. Books were read throughout the day. Thankfully, the sunshine came out this afternoon and we were able to get some fresh air Smile.

For breakfast, children had cheesy eggs and grapes. Lunch consisted of tortillas with hummus, corn, and cantaloupe. PM snack was cottage cheese and raisins.

Have a great night!

WF Tuesday 8/5

051

What IF the raindrops were lemon drops and gumdrops? Then today, in “the water cave”, friends would have devoured the walls! We spent a busy morning indoors and then got outside to run, hop, slide and glide in the rain.

049

Speaking of devouring, our Wee Friends have been gobbling up story after story by favorite kid author Robert Munsch. We even listened to this fabulously silly guy read his stories out loud!

016

Our life skills focus and music right now is listening AND interrupting! We have a WF original song about it called “When You Interrupt Your Friends”. We added maracas today to make the idea of listening FUN!!!!

Hope you are having a great day. –Laurie

Wee Sprouts: PPC Green beans and carrots. Breakfast: Whole wheat bagels with cream cheese and grapes. Lunch: Whole wheat tortillas with hummus, celery sticks and cantaloupe. Snack: Yogurt and peaches.

WWF, 8/1/2014 We Love You, Lulu!

Hello!

Today, we say good-bye to Lulu (not forever though)! Lulu and her family are moving to Germany for a year. When they get back, Lulu will move over to Wee Friends. Miss Luisa started when she was just two months old! Since then, she’s grown into such a loving, spunky, and kind child. We’re going to miss her incredible vocabulary, awesome hugs, and big smile. Safe travels to Lulu and her family! We’ll miss you.

Have a great weekend!

WF Thursday 7/31 Do You Hear What I Hear?

Close your eyes. Now imagine entering the front door of Wee Friends. What do you hear?

Make your way over to the round table. Do you hear the hammer? Or is it the accordion? Is it a pleasant sound or a loud, intrusive sound? Do you hear the pages of the book turning or the rhythm sticks creating tempos? Do you like loud sounds or soft sounds? Is your voice soft or loud?

013

These are things we talked about this morning. As friends went about their work, we encouraged them to be aware of the sounds of their environment. And their own voices.

014

Is it natural for a 3-6 year old to let one conversation finish before they begin another one? It’s another question we pondered. We used WF Life skill Song “When We Interrupt Our Friends (and teachers!)” to illustrate.

“When we interrupt our friends (or teachers),

When we interrupt our friends (or teachers),

When we interrupt our friends (or tee-eeee-chers),

The conversation ends!”

As we sang , several of our friends continued their interesting conversations about the Wee World. Onward we go….hearing sound….speaking our voice…..and learning to listen.

Wee Sprouts: Cucumbers. Breakfast: Cereal and bananas. Lunch: Whole grain cheesy brown rice, grapes and cherry tomatoes/carrots/cucumbers. Snack: Bananas and peanuts.

Stop! Listen! What do you hear? –Laurie

Happy Wednesday!

It was glitter paint day!

Nora and Saskia worked together to create individual artwork. Nora turned to Saskia and said, “Pretty!”

IMG_2946IMG_2953

We were very into looking in our jar to see the color and glitter. Lulu got some on her fingers and pointed up and said, “Messy!”

IMG_2965IMG_2966

Lucy and Maya were offered sensory paint as well. They both stood at the gate anxiously awaiting their turn. Lucy used the paint brush while Maya wasn’t too sure about the project at first. She touched the paint on the paper and soon realized that she didn’t like the paint on her finger! We all have different sensory limitations Smile. Miss Marty likes to indulge herself in sensory play more than Miss Mindy does. Sometimes the ooey gooey part of sensory play is not for everyone!

IMG_2969IMG_2971

Lucy got a work out in this morning! She zoomed down the hill while keeping her balance. Afterwards, she charged up the hill just to do it all over again.

IMG_2999IMG_3000

Anna enjoyed the bright sunshine this afternoon while Tate and Lucy worked with chalk on paper and the cement.

IMG_3009IMG_3026

For breakfast, children had kix and banana. Lunch consisted of melted cheese tortillas, broccoli, and banana. PM snack was Tami’s homemade blueberry and peach oatmeal. Yum!

Have a lovely evening!
