WF Tuesday 5/27 Emerson’s Pies

Emerson, our new WF who will be joining us in a couple weeks, has been visiting each Tuesday. Last week, when she saw our rhubarb, she asked “Can we make  a pie?”  Several friends joined Emerson in last week’s pie work. Today, she was ready to make another pie. So out we went, a few friends, to harvest rhubarb. Most of today’s exploration centered around the sensorial delights of squishing the rhubarb and apple around the bowl, then piling the mixture onto the tortilla. Each friend chose a shape to carve in their crust, to identify their pie coming out of the oven. The rhubarb leaves seem as big as elephant ears. Outside, friends continued to squish, rip and fly with them.

Help yourself to the bounty of our community garden as it grows!

Happy Tuesday. –Laurie

Good Afternoon!

This morning Lulu and Nora sat outside and colored with markers. It was a wonderful day and we took full advantage of it. We love bringing the indoors outside.

Our one year olds are on the go, go, go. We’re starting to walk and becoming more sure of ourselves.

Lucy played a game by herself for a while. First, she put all of the bean bags into the wooden basket. Then, she held the basket up in the air and dumped them out. She did this over and over again Smile.

WF Thursday 5/22 Potato Creek and the Wee Garden!

The Wee Garden is in! Everyone has worked hard this week planting our seeds and our starters. Now we will weed, water and watch it grow.

“Animals die for lots of reasons, but here in the park, they mostly die because they’ve been hit by a car.” –Tim, Interpretive Naturalist, Potato Creek

And so began our tour! The fantastic Tim shared many animals who had perished and been preserved in different ways: skinning, cleaning the bones of flesh and preserving in liquid. Knowing that Wee Friends have been exploring taxidermy, he spoke at length about the process and our friends were captivated.

Questions for your Wee Friend about today:

  1. 1) We used newspaper to stuff our animal. What does Tim use to stuff his animals?
  2. Which animal was turned into a puppet?
  3. What are the eyes made out of?
  4. Are the teeth real?
  5. Tell me about the snake in the jar.

After our time with Tim, we crossed the street to the park, played and snacked.  A fantastic culminating experience for our taxidermy study. But stay tuned for the Paper Mache alligator in the works.

Have a great day and keep your eyes on road. There are lots of critters out there this time of year. –Laurie

Breakfast was Puffin Cereal and bananas.  Wee Sprouts were cherry tomatoes.  Lunch was ham and cheese on whole wheat bread, fresh strawberries, and sliced cucumbers.  Snack will be deliciously sweet Purple Porch Mangos and rice cakes with cream cheese.

Happy Wednesday!

**Just as a reminder, we’ll be closed Monday, May 26th for Memorial Day.

While Nora went with Group B to the farm, Lulu, Lucy, Tate, and Maya stayed back at Wee Wee. We loved reading stories together. Lulu’s new favorite phrase: “What’s that?!” The curiosity of toddlers is always at a high. They want to know what something is, why things happen, and where certain people are.

Our friend Eren has since moved on to Wee Friends next door. While this is only our first week without Eren, everyday at the lunch table Lulu will ask, “Where’s Eren?” Even at a young age, these kids are forming connections, making bonds.

While older friends were taking their naps, Tate and Maya hung out in the kitchen where they worked with magnatiles. They loved knocking down Miss Mindy’s towers!

WF Farm 5/21/14

FIRST OFF…REMINDER…GROUP A (older preschoolers) have their field trip to Potato Creek Nature Center tomorrow, Thursday, May 22nd.  The Nature Center kindly worked to fit us into their packed schedule so we could explore our current interest in taxidermy. This means we have to be there EARLY.  The Weehicle will be pulling out at 8:15 and if you would like to join us at Potato Creek, you can meet us at the Nature Center.  (There is a car entry fee at the gate.)

Today we took our younger kids to the farm.  It was a fabulous trip and the kids all did great!  Everyone relished in the strange smells, animal explorations, & squishy mud.  We certainly have an excellent group of budding farmers!

There is the Farm Trip photos on this and I’ll post a second blog with the classroom pics back at WF.  EnjoySmile

Breakfast was cheerios and banana.  Wee Sprouts were radishes and cherry tomatoes.  Lunch was hummus on whole wheat, orange slices and fresh steamed broccoli.  Snack will be peanuts and bananas.

Have a great day!

Good Afternoon!

With a few of our friends down for their morning naps, we decided to go for a walk. Nora and Lulu joined Miss Mindy as we walked around the neighborhood. We picked a few dandelions along the way.

IMG_9917IMG_9918

Nora and Lulu spotted various beautiful flowers along the street. We talked about the colors that we saw too. A few things I heard on our walk:

“Miss Mindy, it’s bumpy!” (referring to the sidewalk)

“I hear a doggie barking!”

“I see two squirrels.”

IMG_9919IMG_9920

With the beautiful scenery, lovely weather, and awesome company, we were all smiles!

Lucy and friends enjoyed the tunnel this afternoon after naptime. Laughter could be heard around the block!

IMG_9942IMG_9943

Taters had a photo shoot with himself. After Miss Mindy took the picture, we’d look back at it and he giggled when he saw himself on the camera screen Smile.
