Happy Friday!

We enjoyed our first full week back of this year! No delays. No closings. It was awesome to have consistency this week. Now if the snow could just stop coming Smile.

IMG_4413IMG_4424IMG_4435

Friends read stories, participated in habitrail play, and manipulated magnatiles. However, we were rather lethargic. Friends were pretty low key this morning and even into this afternoon. It was a long but good week!

IMG_4439IMG_4440IMG_4410

Our baby friends LOVED reading stories today. Someone gave Henri a book and he started bouncing for joy!

We’re hoping to see the warmer temperatures that they’re calling for next week so we can maybe think about going outside! Wonder where all of this snow if going to go? Smile

For breakfast, children had kix and oranges. Lunch consisted of whole grain rice with cheese and beef, peas, and oranges. PM snack was graham crackers and hard boiled eggs.

Have a GREAT weekend! See you Monday!

WF Friday 2/7 The Wee Olympic Optical Course

002

“What am I creating?” asked Lisa. “It’s an optical course!” shouted Clara.

We talked about the Olympics this morning and Lisa created an optical course for friends to navigate. Each of them received the gold, upon completion of the course.

Afterwards, we created a message board with the questions: What type of athlete are you?” We had everything from ballerinas to boxers.

In light of our indoor day, we are keeping our friends moving and groovin’. “If You’re Happy and You Know It” got their bodies jumping, clapping, shaking and hopping.

Hope everyone has a terrific and warm weekend.

WF Thursday 2/6 Peace

014

What do we do when one friend gives another friend unsolicited, unfriendly feedback?

We teach peace. Pace. Mir. And Lisa did just that. She gathered friends close to her and talked peace. She read Can You Say Peace? by Karen Katz. She role played with friends about what they might say/do when another friend shares unkind words. She invited friends to offer kind words to one another. We’ve talked about what an angry face looks like and what an angry body looks like. We’ve talked about what to do with our anger when we feel it. We make our way back to making peace.

In other parts of the classroom, we used poker chips to determine Math FAB K.1.8: using, appropriately, the words: one/many and none/all. We also worked with Montessori beads.

002 021

We worked, played, climbed, glued, painted, puzzled and cared for one another (and our baby dolls), beside one another… with peace as our mission.

027

And our Wee Friends made it happen.

Wee Sprouts: Cucumbers. Breakfast: Cereal and apple slices. Lunch: Egg casserole, peas and bananas. Snack: Yogurt and orange slices.

Peace Out.

Blue Bus Session

The new blue bus session for WF begins this Monday, Feb 10.  There will be a sign up sheet in the doorway to check “yes” or “no” for your child’s participation in this 7 week session.

The cost of this session is $70.00.

If your child is new to the blue bus, you will also need to fill out Jennifer’s Registration form, which will be located above the sign in sheets.

We also have a make-up day on Friday, Feb 14th for this past session.  Sorry it’s so confusing, but the snow days really messed up the schedule!

Good Afternoon!

As a group, we had a great day! New friends are getting acclimated to the environment, teachers, and friends. Our older friends are continuing to grow in their development. The growth that children make day to day is astounding. Children are truly amazing.

We spent the day in the gross motor area. Our older friends help the babies get toys that they may want or teach them how to do something such as rocking on the gross motor tool.

IMG_4246IMG_4243IMG_4247

Friends try new things everyday such as Lucy trying to get up the slide. She tried multiple times with a smile on her face.

IMG_4248IMG_4250

Our newest friend Henri is filling our house with even more smiles and laughter.

IMG_4257IMG_4259

IMG_4263IMG_4264

IMG_4274IMG_4277IMG_4284

We helped one another with various activities today such as building a train track.

IMG_4289IMG_4288

Our baby friends are growing way too fast! Just in a few short months, they will all turn one year old (HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?!)

IMG_4297IMG_4299

We take on various roles throughout the day such as handyman, doctor, and chef. At the end of the day, we have the best job of all….being a kid!

IMG_4310IMG_4286IMG_4271

For breakfast, children had malt-o-meal with pears. Lunch consisted of soy butter on tortillas, apples, and peas. PM snack was string cheese and graham crackers.

Have a lovely evening!

WF 2/5 Wednesday

We are looking, each day, for an opportunity to get the kids outside! We assess the temperature, starting about 10:30am, and we look for “real feel” to be a number we think kids will be comfortable playing in. We take into account sunshine and wind! Unfortunately, we didn’t make it out this am!

002

HAPPY BIG THREE LEO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Math FAB K.1.17 and K.1.8: Find a number that is more/less than a number, up to 10: Use correctly the words one/many, none/some/all, more/less and most/least.

Many friends worked on Leo’s Big Birthday Card.

012

Other friends used a variety of math manipulatives and explored the above FABS.

008

031

Elliott experimented with a launch pad.

040

Clara puzzled and matched rhymes. She’s also been belting out     “C-L-A-R-A!” We followed her lead and cheered the letters that make up other friend’s names.

033

A group of friends played Maleficent under the habitrail. When casting the roles, the witch was said to possess “a black heart because she’s a witch”. We talked about the color black and sad and angry emotions.

021

And we celebrated Leo, in large and small groups, with his favorite toys and his birthday kazoo.

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Cereal and raisins. Lunch: Whole wheat tortillas with peanut butter, peas and pears. Snack: Birthday cupcakes and apple slices.

Hope you’ve had a terrific day and here comes the sun.

Good Afternoon!

The morning crew started off their day manipulating stackable blocks. Henri enjoyed taking two blocks and banging them together. Saskia stacked them one by one while Tate laughed when the tower got knocked down Smile.

IMG_4202IMG_4190IMG_4207

IMG_4193IMG_4209

Saskia, Eren, and Nora played with play-doh in the kitchen. They used hammers, rolling pins, and their fingers to investigate it.

IMG_4220IMG_4221IMG_4222

Eren noticed that there were sparkles in the play-doh!

IMG_4225IMG_4228IMG_4226

For breakfast, children had toast with butter and oranges. Lunch consisted of turkey and cheese slices, bread, black beans, and pears. PM snack was cottage cheese and pretzels.

WF Names and Instructions for Valentine’s Day 2/4/14

027

Good Afternoon! Unfortunately at our outdoor time, the tem019p was ONLY 12 degrees.  Major disappointment for all.  However, we easily stayed busy in a group project creating a beautiful classroom yarn/heart piece of art, exploring more bat concepts and learning about Sloane’s new interest….clouds, in addition to all the regular work we do daily.

For those who haven’t been watching the weather, there is a Winter Weather Advisory for our entire area from Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon.  More snow.  Oh yeah.

There are still a few families not in our text service.  It’s wickedly easy to get notified immediately by text for any closings or delays we may have.  Just send @weefr to 574-310-8161.  You will be prompted to text your name and then you are all set.  It will save me panicked phone calls to people who aren’t signed up when we have a sudden change of plans like a week ago Monday and I’m trying to reach multiple people before they leave their house.

VALENTINE’S DAY 2014, FRIDAY FEBRUARY 14TH

Love is in the air!  On Valentine’s Day, children are welcome to bring in valentine’s for their friends and teachers.  Here’s some ground rules:

  • Keep it simple! Don’t be up until 2:00 a.m. the night before creating stunning scrapbooking worthy valentines unless you love doing this and find it a joy.  The kids are very happy with any valentine that comes their way, including those store bought ones.
  • Please don’t “up the ante” by bringing high dollar or elaborate valentines.  If you do choose a valentine with candy, keep it small.
  • All valentines and candy will be sent home with your child to enjoy with you.
  • Feel free to just label the “from” part of the valentine and your child can then just put one in each valentine bag.
