Good Afternoon!

Friends headed to the kitchen where they painted this morning. For our friends Eve and Eren, painting is a regular activity that they’re familiar with. However, for Lu-Lu and Saskia, it was all about the experience today. Feeling the paint on their hands was a big event! They become more and more accepting of this material that was ooey and slimy on their hands Smile.

Paint-1  Eve and Eren-0 (we were a little messy) Smile. However, that means that we dove into the paint today and fully divulged ourselves in the process!

WF 10/15 Puzzle Mania!

FARM WEDNESDAY: Finn, Max, Ellie, Elizabeth, Sophie, Elliott, Aislinn and Owen.

Today Lisa reported that, at the Y, friends in both groups worked their swimming arms, swimming kicks and got comfortable with their heads going all the way under the water, after a dive.

Back in the classroom, there seems to be Puzzle Mania brewing! Our puzzle library is extensive and is divided into four levels, arranged by difficulty. We both honor our Wee Friends developmental levels as well as challenge them to work through the puzzles.

007

The blocks under the habitrail (large and small) are life-sized puzzle pieces that are being constantly arranged and re-arranged through the whole space.

012

When the swimmers left, Melinda organized a sensory experience with two bins: one filled with bird seed and the other rice/macaroni. They measured, poured, sifted, squished and worked side by side.

Happy Monday!

We got tons of smiles from our friends to start off our week! We witnessed some scooting today from the babies Smile Smile.

IMG_9921IMG_9931

Our two’s went into the kitchen where they indulged themselves in bird seed! We talked about the different colors that we saw along with how it felt on our hands. Emma held it in her hand and said, “Here birdie birdie!”

IMG_9942IMG_9945IMG_9952

IMG_9962IMG_9971

Our friend Carrie sat with us and talked with us about what we were doing. She is doing a few hours of observation with us here at Wee Wee friends!

IMG_9973IMG_9975

While the bird seed expedition took place, Lu Lu and Saskia worked on their fine motor skills. They took pegs and put them into the different holes that were provided. They sure did get the hang of it at the end!

IMG_9979IMG_9974

For breakfast, children had cheerios and apples. Lunch consisted of whole grain pasta with marinara sauce, fresh mixed fruit, and corn. Afternoon snack was rice cakes with soy butter and craisins.

Have a great night.

WF 10/14 “I don’t like this oxymoron.”

002

This week’s literacy FAB: K.7.2 – “Share information and ideas, speaking in complete, coherent sentences.”

Keeping it simple and clear. Not overloading concepts in teachable moments. Speaking in complete and coherent sentences. (How do you like those complete sentences?! Smile) These are communication guidelines we use in the early childhood classroom. Today, at the lunch table, a friend expressed “Can I have more salad? I don’t like the lettuce, I just want the salad.”  “That’s an oxymoron.” replied the teacher. “Well I don’t like this oxymoron.” replied the friend as he held up one leaf of lettuce. Simple and clear.

010

Math FABS: K.4.1 “Identify and describe common geometric shapes.” K.4.3 “Identify and use the terms: inside, outside, between, above and below.” We were swimming in shapes and their possibilities this morning!

048055

064

We watch as friends work together to create. We are particularly interested in how our friends are relating to one another through sentences and body language. We guide our friends, as needed, to develop social skills that enable them to feel empowered and productive.

051060

“We are taping this down so that you can pop the bubbles.” That was the sentence we used to invite friends into this sensory exploration. They tried, fingers, toes and the soles of their tennies. It was the weight of the bicycle wheel that provided the most sensorial pleasure!

083

Simple, open ended sentences often lead to the most interesting and creative works. It was this kind of day: this awfully pretty day.

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Cheerios and pear slices. Lunch: Penne pasta with marinara, orange/banana fruit salad and bowls of oxymoron with Ranch Smile. Snack: Cheese sticks and pretzels.

Happy Friday!

IMG_9811IMG_9804

There was a request today from Emmie’s daddy to do her beautiful hair. So Marty did. Our friends love having their hair done. Emma requested piggies. She loved the end result Smile.

IMG_9802IMG_9808IMG_9809

We ended our week with a painting session. Children used different fall colors to paint. We later incorporated the colors into our day as we walked outside this morning. We looked around for these colors in the backyard and we found them in the leaves!

IMG_9812IMG_9814IMG_9828

We made sure to use all of the colors to see what they look like on the paper. Emma let us know that ‘yellow’ is her favorite color Smile.

IMG_9818IMG_9820IMG_9830

After we looked at the leaf colors outside, Eve and Emma ducked and hid behind the bench. Peek-a-boo was in order.

IMG_9836IMG_9837

This quickly moved to the log house where they peeked their eyes out in between the logs.

IMG_9841

The last stop of our game was hiding on the side of the play house. Peek-a-boo!

IMG_9843

We celebrated our Friday by getting the trampoline out for a little bit.

IMG_9851IMG_9855

We are jumping higher and higher every time we use the trampoline!

IMG_9859IMG_9862

We ended our Friday by having a dance party. Really, there’s no better way to end the week.

IMG_9866IMG_9872

As Emma, Eren, and Eve danced, Emma grabbed Saskia’s hand to help her join in on the fun. Friendship; it’s a beautiful thing.

IMG_9873IMG_9876IMG_9879

For breakfast, children had chex and apples. AM snack was corn. Lunch consisted of hummus tortilla roll-ups, mixed vegetables, and oranges. PM snack was yogurt and graham crackers.

Have a terrific weekend!

Hello!

Floor time was a hit today. Tate, Maya, and Lucy are enjoying their floor time more and more each day. Our older friends get down on the ground with them and talk to them.

IMG_9714IMG_9731IMG_9790

Each baby is making their way toward movement. Lucy has been propping herself up on her elbows and trying to get up on her knees. She’s been successful a few times Smile. It won’t be long now…

IMG_9793IMG_9797IMG_9799

We headed outside where the chilly weather required our jackets!

IMG_9735IMG_9737

Emma made a pretend pie out of sand! She had friends taste it.

IMG_9745IMG_9755

Lu-Lu pushed the car forward! She loved it!

IMG_9762IMG_9765

The log house was loaded with friends climbing to the top.

IMG_9769IMG_9771

A fill and dump exposition took place. Emma and Eren went around and filled their buckets with rocks. As soon as they were full, we dumped them!

IMG_9779IMG_9780

Emma and Eren picked one flower each so that they could smell them with their nose. They both said, “Ohhhh!” Emma carried it around with her saying, “Pretty”.

IMG_9783IMG_9784

For breakfast, children had chex and pears. Lunch consisted of ham, cheddar cheese slices, fresh whole wheat bread, banana, and peas. PM snack was string cheese and goldfish.

Have a lovely evening.

WF Daily Explorations, 10/10/13 Neighborhood Walk

032

Today Miss Lisa and Miss Melinda took the 8 oldest children for a walk throughout the neighborhood.  The children created a list of things that they wanted to find and had a wonderful time looking for patterns, rhyming words and shapes.  At small group time, Miss Lisa had a lively discussion as they remembered their walk.

004

Miss Tami remained back at the classroom with the 2 and 3 years olds who thoroughly enjoyed having the entire classroom to themselves!  We read some stories, there were many magna tiles structures built and a lively game of “find me” in the cubbies.

056

Breakfast was toast and fruit. Wee Sprouts were carrots.  Lunch was ham on whole wheat, fresh steamed broccoli and bananas.  Snack will be pear slices and cheddar cheese.

***PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU BRING IN EXTRA FALL CLOTHES FOR YOUR CHILD’S BATHROOM CUBBY, IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE THIS.  TX!

Have a great day!

Good Afternoon!

Cars took over our morning. We pushed them. We rode them. We did just about everything one can do with a car Smile.

IMG_9658IMG_9657

Eren and Eve were shadows of each other this morning. Wherever one went, the other followed. Day by day, a special friendship is forming.

IMG_9666IMG_9667

Lu-Lu loved playing in the sand. It was a tad wet which allowed her to put the sand into all of her buckets and then dump it out right after!

IMG_9671IMG_9663

The babies had a gab session when the older Wee Wee’s napped. At first, it was just Maya and Lucy. They were nicely sharing their toys with one another.

IMG_9677IMG_9679

Maya softly touched Lucy head. Lucy liked this Smile.

IMG_9688IMG_9691IMG_9707

Tate woke up from his nap to join the girls! We’re excited to see what occurs within the next month for these three Wee Wee’s. Crawling perhaps? Stay tuned! (We’re seeing the beginning stages of crawling)

IMG_9692IMG_9700

For breakfast, children had eggs and apples. Lunch consisted of whole grain rice with chicken, apples, and corn. PM snack was crackers and hummus.

Have a great night.
