WF Tuesday 10/1

If the weather permits and we are fully staffed, Tami will be taking our youngest friends to the farm tomorrow. These friends are: Zoi, Clara, Leo, Eve, Emma, Eren and Daniel.

002

It was Sophie’s lion’s desire coming through in a whisper “Can we play the Wizard of Oz?”. And so our morning began. As the music played friends, one by one, joined the skip down the yellow brick road. As always, when Somewhere Over the Rainbow began, friends collected soft pillows so they could lie in the hay, beneath the rainbow.

005

Math FAB K.2.3 – Describe addition situations.

Lisa gathered friends to the art table to count and string beads.

029

Literacy FAB K.3.3 – Identify characters, settings and important events in the story.

Using two felt piece stories: Wheels on the Bus and Humpty Dumpty, friends studied characters and heard the word used to describe who they were seeing. We sang about each character riding the bus. Friends shared observations (ex: a smiling G’ma) and we chose to sing something about her: “The Grandma on the bus says “have a cookie! have a cookie! have a cookie!” The Grandma on the bus says “have a cookie!” all through the town.”

044

Lisa gathered friends for a story. Lone Star Lizette came over to hear the story. She  shared with us that she had a cold. Friends shared with her what to do when her nose was runny. They guided her through the process of getting a tissue all the way to washing her hands.

WWF, 9/26/2013

Good Afternoon!

Our day was full of smiles and laughter. Our numbers were lower than normal which allowed friends to bond with one another. Even with the age difference, our older friends LOVE to interact with the babies. Eren gave numerous kisses to the babies all day long.

WF Thursday 9/26 Math in the House

061

We honed in on math FABS today. Lisa offered friends a basket filled with plastic skulls, spiders, pumpkins, snakes and mini-cauldrons. Using ice cube trays as a graph,  they counted, sorted, identified more and less, one/many and counted up to ten objects. Some friends wrote the numbers on paper. Math FABS: K.1.7 – Find the number that is one more than or one less than any whole number up to 10. K.1.6 – Count, recognize, represent, name and order a number of objects (up to 10). K.1.8 – Use correctly the words one/many, none/some/all, more/less and most/least.

Elizabeth and Sophie built a long road that led to a castle.

Typically, Aislinn and Owen begin their day bonding over Magna-Tiles, Trios or other building/counting materials.

004

Max and Elliott spent much of their morning work time designing 3D creations.

Another example of great math work happening through play: Marina led her friends as they sorted, stacked and organized familiar household materials. And then they worked on their laptops.
