WF Friday 9/5 Origami

042

It began with Elliott expressing “I know a project for today. I want to make a boat to see if it floats.” He found a book, an origami book, that had a picture of a boat. He studied it and made a plan. Jessica noticed him working at the table and joined him. After a discussion, they began the work of creating an origami boat. Other friends noticed and joined them. The table quickly filled up and friends began a morning spending focused time understanding this great art of creating 3D objects with paper. There were rich, in depth conversations about how to fold the edges.  After a creation was complete (lots of boats!) Jessica invited friends to see if their paper boats could float. She offered them a tub of water to investigate scientifically. We hung the letters of the word ORIGAMI up for friends to reference as they worked.
