It turned into an exciting morning outside when Miss Rebekah brought out the big parachute!

Everyone found a handle and worked together to lift the parachute up and down. Sophia couldn’t keep the huge smile off her face!

Franklin loved standing under the parachute and watching it float up and come back down. A few of our friends snuck underneath and popped back out from another side.

Friends laughed and jumped and held on tight to their handles as they shook the parachute as fast as they could!

Hello!

Happy last day of August–

**This is an extremely rare situation we have going with the mosquitoes. That being said, if you want your child to have bug spray on while here at school, please provide specific bug spray for your child. At this time, we will just put bug spray on children who have bug spray here (morning and afternoon if needed)! If you have any questions about this, please ask! Smile

No matter the time of day, children are always able to go to the art table. Maxwell sat down at the art table this morning and started creating. Rosemary closely followed and got out a marker block for herself. This is one of the areas in the classroom where our imagination starts bubbling. Not only does it engage our creative and artistic flow but it allows our language to evolve.

DSCN1890DSCN1897

Another spot that we’ve been taking full advantage of this week is our new sensory table! With the different tools available, it’s definitely open to interpretation. Some friends take the corn and move it throughout their fingers while others work on their pouring and filling skills.

DSCN1909

As we headed outside this morning, a couple friends suggested the parachute be brought out. We all took turns going underneath the parachute as well as the important job of holding the parachute.

DSCN1930DSCN1934

We added one more skill to our parachute adventure: throwing balls into the mix! As a group, we tried to keep the balls in the middle as long as possible. Talk about team work!

In kindergarten today:

Jackson and Addi focused on identifying lower case letters (K.RF.2.4) using our set of Montessori letters. I put a few letters into a hat so that they could pull a letter out of the hat and identify it. There were a few that we were unsure about so we worked together to try and solve it.

Without prompting, Jackson and Addi started saying, “This is a ‘D’. Like D for Daniel!” We started associating each letter with a word that we were familiar with.

DSCN1914DSCN1918

DSCN1922

In large group today, we read two different stories, ‘Roly-Poly Egg’ and ‘Llama Llama Home With Mama’. Jackson said, “Hey! Roly and poly rhyme!”

Before we started reading our books, I inquired about prior background knowledge of ‘syllables’. A few children knew what the word was but couldn’t define it. I simply told them it’s ‘the separate sounds we hear in words’. We did a few examples: preschool and flower. We put our hand under our chin to see how many times it moved. We all said ‘flower’ together. As a group, we came to the consensus that our chin moved two times, meaning it has two syllables. We did the same with preschool!

Once we read our two stories, we specifically looked at the titles of our books. We put our trusty hand underneath our chin again and found out all of the syllables for both titles! The clap method was also adopted to find syllables: Ma-ma (clap, clap).

Before ending group, we each found out how many syllables our name has! Addi and Lulu both chose to use their ‘real’ names, Addison and Luisa which had more syllables than their nicknames.

DSCN1964

We headed to the table where children journaled their specific thoughts. It’s always lovely to see children’s thoughts transferred to paper.

Breakfast– Homemade blueberry oatmeal casserole with banana.

Lunch– Organic brown rice with chicken and cheese, strawberries, and cucumbers.

PM snack– Air popped popcorn and PPC peaches.

Wee Sprouts– Cucumbers.

Good afternoon!

**At pickup today, we have a packet of important papers to go home/be signed. Please pick up your packet from a teacher! Thanks!

The welcome activity that was made available at the round table this morning focused on our one to one correspondence skills. Friends look at each item on the poster and the corresponding number and put the correct number of spiders on each item. For instance, on the hot dog which had the number 4, four spiders were put on the hot dog picture!

DSCN1782DSCN1783

We went outside early this morning so that we could get a good deal of outside time before it started raining. Right as we headed out, we were made aware of the mosquito population in our backyard. So, a group of friends started a running group. As they ran, they yelled, “Go away mosquitos!”

DSCN1791DSCN1792

While we were shooing the mosquitos away, a team worked together to build a log fortress. They moved the logs throughout the rock area before building a wigwam looking structure.

DSCN1803DSCN1797DSCN1802

The theme of pretend was kept up once a couple of children started a game of ‘doctor’! Rosemary and Anna took turns being the patient while doctors gave them pretend medicine and checked their temperature using a woodchip thermometer. They were thankfully both cleared!

DSCN1820DSCN1823DSCN1827

In Kindergarten:

We worked on one of our FAB’s throughout our day. We counted many different items that were formed in a couple of different ways. When we sat down for journaling time, I asked how many markers we had available to use! Together, we counted the rectangular shape of the marker block to see how many markers we had.

As we read our story in large group, I got down on the floor with everyone and we counted the toppings on the pizza that was formed in a circular shape.

In large group, we read ‘Pete’s Pizza’. During the story, we talked about the different sizes of pizza that we’ve seen. The overwhelming consensus was a circle! However, one child did say they’ve had a triangle pizza before!

We made our own pizza and went around the group to see everyone’s favorite toppings. A child commented, “I always have a whole lot of toppings on my pizza…almost ten!” We’ll transfer this into a project for tomorrow morning! Who wouldn’t want to talk about pizza? Smile

Please note: The mosquitos have become pretty bad outside. Please feel free to bring in bug spray for your child.

Our friends were very excited that we went outside early to beat the rain. Ruby, Franklin, and Sophia ran laps around the track to burn off some energy!

DSCN0008DSCN0009DSCN0010DSCN0014

It didn’t rain as early as we thought it would, but no one complained about the extra time outdoors! We all enjoyed playing together in the fresh air!

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a terrific weekend!

Our newest friend joined us today from Wee Wee! David started at Wee Friends this morning and fit right into our classroom. We’re so excited to add our final piece to our Wee Friends puzzle!

DSCN1652DSCN1741

Over the weekend, Tami built us a new sensory table. She took down the one person loft and replaced it with our sensory bin! It’s mobile and allows us to switch out the sensory items whenever we wish! Let’s just say, we took advantage of it today!

DSCN1668DSCN1679

We also received a new fine motor activity in the habitrail area as well as a new wood working bench tabletop. Friends loved testing out the new materials today!

DSCN1732

A rousing game of ‘ring around the rosie’ took place outside this morning. We all enjoyed the nice weather and warm sun on our faces.

DSCN1768DSCN1769

We will focus on the following FAB’s this week:

K.RF.2.4: Identify and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

K.RF.3.2 Orally segment words into syllables.

K.NS.4: Perform one to one correspondence tasks.

K.NS.5: Count up to 20 objects arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle. Count up to 10 objects in a scattered configuration.

In Kindergarten today, Jackson and Addi used different building materials to form structures. I asked them to compile a group of 10, 15, etc. blocks and build whatever they wish. Using their one to one correspondence skills, they counted the blocks one by one until they got to 10, 15, etc.

DSCN1723DSCN1713

Once they built their structure, they used their clipboard, paper, and marker to put their work on paper.

DSCN1731DSCN1722

“I have another way to count too! I can count my fingers.”

So, the three of us counted our fingers and our toes! One of us came up with 19 fingers and toes combined! As a group, we questioned that total so we decided to count again, making sure to hit every finger and toe.

DSCN1725

We transferred this idea to large group where we read a book called, “If You Hold A Seed”. Throughout the story, we learned that a tree starts with one single seed! Addi said, “We should make an apple tree!” So as a group, we made a tree and added apples to it. We counted the roots and the apples on the tree aloud. Once the apples were counted, another child said, “How many are going to be red apples? Those are my favorite.”

DSCN1780

Breakfast– Whole wheat toast with no nut butter and raisins.

Lunch– Whole wheat pasta with marinara sauce and shredded cheese, oranges, and peppers.

PM snack– Whole milk yogurt with pumpkin flax seed granola.

Wee Sprouts– Cauliflower.

Have a great night!

Happy Friday!

It was all about team work today!

DSCN1571DSCN1576

Jackson made a creation at the wood working bench this morning. Addi stood next to him to assist him. They took the creation and headed to the art table where they requested paint! Together, they picked three colors to paint with!

DSCN1579DSCN1584

Meanwhile, Lucy and Grady worked together to put puzzle pieces together to make words! Lucy made the word ‘cake’ while Grady constructed the word ‘shoe’! Lucy ran to a teacher and said, “We can’t do this one! We have the ‘c’ and the ‘a’ but not the ‘r’. We can’t build ‘car’!”

DSCN1594DSCN1597

There were periods throughout our morning where friends wanted to listen to different stories. When a teacher starts reading, children usually flock to the reading area to listen.

DSCN1586DSCN1598

As we wrapped up our FAB for the week discussing community helpers as well as classroom rules, each group was asked, “What do YOU want to be?” We had some great answer and aspirations!

…”I just want to help.”

DSCN1626DSCN1637

Breakfast– Kashi’s Blueberry Clusters and grapes.

Lunch– Organic roasted red pepper hummus on tortillas, grapes, and cauliflower/green beans.

PM snack– Pears and pretzels.

Wee Sprouts– Green beans.

Have a terrific weekend!

Hello!

*We want to send a HUGE thank you to all of our families. We received all of the surveys with one day to spare! Awesome job!

In large group, we talked about how farmers contribute to our community. Every Monday, we get our weekly Purple Porch Co-op (http://www.purpleporch.coop/) delivery. We receive fresh vegetables and fruits for our program. We linked this to our story about harvesting. In the story, we read about different tools used to harvest along with learning about farmers!

We made a web and ideas started shooting out left and right. A pretty detailed list of food was made and friends talked about how farmers help US!

“We always go to the farmer’s market and get food that’s good for us.”

“Farmers grow cucumbers which you can make into pickles.”

“My mom said that cows drink milk and make milk!”
