Please note: Tomorrow will be a water day outside. Please bring a bathing suit for your child. Also, if there are any board books you would like to donate for the classroom, we would greatly appreciate some!

Our friends stayed very busy today! They played with the transparent stacking squares in the morning. They love to making silly faces at each other through them!

Then we turned on some fun music that everyone danced to. Afterwards, we took down some musical instruments. Our friends enjoyed banging on the drums and using the shakers to run along the wall xylophone.

We hung up photos of all our friends on the wall at their eye level. Our friends love looking at them!

After snack we played with pegs in the kitchen. Many towers were built! They did a great job of sharing the boards and pegs with each other.

Good Afternoon!

***We are going to have water day tomorrow so please make sure your child has a swimsuit here! Thanks!

Our day flowed seamlessly. After completely the sign in message and eating breakfast, children drifted off to various activities.

We re-arranged the habitrail area and rotated toys into the environment. The big, yellow tracks were brought upstairs which were utilized all morning long. Various configurations were made so that cars and tracks could be driven all throughout the circle carpet!

As we went outside, we found out that we had a TON of helpers on our hands. First, a station was set up to shuck corn that we had for lunch. Friends headed to the garden where they helped weed. We love going into the garden each day, seeing if there’s any vegetables ready to pick!

DSCN0275DSCN0289

We needed to move our bodies before lunch so music was turned on outside. Sometimes, just a little music does the trick!

DSCN0309DSCN0310

We read two stories during large group today. The second story we read was titled, ‘My Many Colored Days”. After finishing the story, we talked about how WE feel today. Everyone told the group how they felt today using colors, just like the book!

A child transferred the conversation that we had in large group to her journal. She said, “Look. This guy is blue and sideways! He’s not very happy.”

And our very favorite: The Pathfinder Wall Panel! It helps to challenge and enhance hand-eye coordination, color recognition, gross motor dexterity and sensorimotor skills. It was a big hit with our friends!

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a terrific weekend!

Different building materials were used this morning to create inventions such as a smoke stack! Building in the early childhood classroom is not a simplistic activity. There are MANY benefits from block play. Here’s an article that explains why block play is so vital..—>

There were many opportunities for cooperative play this morning. Miss Tami bought us new play equipment for the rocks over the weekend. Friends get super intrigued when we introduce new items into the environment. Right when we headed outside, many children formed a hard working, cooperative group that dug many holes using our new shovels!

DSCN0110DSCN0127

Maddie and Lulu transitioned from small group to large group today. Our older friends were eager to show them the ropes and what’s expected of them during this time. After we read a few stories, we headed to the tables where children are given the opportunity to journal. Something as simple as picking out a sticker for the journal page is a pretty big deal! Smile

WF, Happy Graduation Day!, 8/5/2016

Happy Friday!

We had a terrific graduation day! Our graduating friends proudly hung the banner that they had made yesterday.

DSCN9951DSCN9953

Our five graduating children lined up to accept their Wee Friends certificate along with a photo album of photos that were taken over their years here.

DSCN9955

It has been an amazing journey with these five children. Years upon years of memories not only with them but with their family as well.

DSCN9961

The relationships that we are able to build with the family as a whole makes it so much more rewarding on a day like today. Most of these kids have been here for four or five years which allows for the relationships between the child and parents to grow exponentially.

DSCN9965DSCN9969DSCN9972

The support and appreciation we receive from families on a day to day basis is absolutely amazing. Not only do we love the daily interactions with each and every child but the conversations that we’re able to have with parents makes it complete.

Elliott and Elizabeth ended their Wee Friends career today. From starting at one and two years old respectively, to now going off to 1st grade together, they have literally grown beyond recognition. They have formed a fabulous friendship that they are now going to take onto Good Shepherd! We will miss you both SO much!

One of the best parts about time outside is getting to interact with our older friends. Our Wee Wees always light up when they see them come out the door to join us in the backyard! Friends from both groups are excited to say hi to each other everyday.
