Good Afternoon!
K/PREK1 celebrated National Cat Day a day late by reading ‘Cat, You Better Come Home’. After we were done, we revisited the sentences on the chalkboard from yesterday. Together, we identified three different types of end punctuation: period, question mark, and exclamation point.
Our last activity to end group consisted of a number activity that allowed for varying levels of development to participate. Up on the chalkboard, I put the number words. I held up the number ‘7’ which everyone was able to identify. Our older friends who have letter knowledge looked for the number word that started with an ‘s’ because ‘seven’ starts with an ‘s’. We talked about the letter sounds we were hearing and seeing as we went through each number word and matching number. As we matched the number word to it’s number, we taped them next to one another.
K.NS.2: Write whole numbers from 0 to 20 and recognize number words from 0 to 10.
After PREK2 read their story, they participated in an activity where one to one correspondence skills were used as well as number identification knowledge. Miss Kim drew pictures on the board and each child was given a number card with a number and the corresponding number word. Together, they counted the number of items in each picture and figured out who had that number card. Children came up to the board and matched their number card to the correct picture!
Maxwell grabbed the sand numbers this morning and practiced his number identification by using crayons and pencils as he completed rubbings of specific numbers.
We continued to work on our art creations. We’re so anxious to see them up in the environment as well as sharing them with you!
