Good Afternoon!
K/PREK1 read Pooh’s Jingle Bells which tells the story of Pooh and his friends wanting to help Santa pass out presents to everyone around the world. This was a theme throughout the day of helping others or doing something kind for someone else.
After the story was done, we talked about two words: ‘city’ and ‘state’. First, we talked about states and given our group of children is fairly well traveled, friends started sharing states that they’ve been to right away! As they shared a state, they also shared the memory that’s attached to that state which was great! We used a map of the United States to point out the states that we wrote on our web.
We also talked about cities which ended up being a little more challenging to comprehend but we were able to come up with a few cities that are very familiar.
Social Studies: K.3.2 Identify maps and globes as ways of representing Earth and understand differences between a map/globe.
In PREK2, children looked at the map that was displayed. After observing it, each friend shared one thing on the map that they noticed. Answers ranged from ‘the big tree’ to ‘toy factory’!
Children often view the holiday time as a time for presents (as kids, that’s the best part right?!). But, we’ve been focusing lately on the other part: spending time with loved ones and helping those who are in need.
This morning, a few children helped Miss Kim bake chocolate/banana muffins to give to a few neighbors to thank them and wish them a happy holiday. We had a terrific time baking the muffins and I’m sure giving them to our neighbors will be even better!
Lucy and a few of her older peers made individual cards for our neighbors to attach to the muffins!
“Christmas is really about spending time with people you love.”
