Good Afternoon!
In K/PREK1, we read a fiction story we checked out at the library. We dissected one of the crudest characters of all time: Cruella de Vil. Friends kept asking, “Why is she so mean?!”. We talked about choices that Cruella was making and how they thought that made other people feel.
Afterwards, we dove into word families. We started with five words: got, rat, ran, king, and bin. We went through each word and sorted them based on similarities between the words. A few friends commented, “These words all rhyme!”. After we sorted all of the words, Lucy asked, “So which group had the most?”. We counted each group and came to the conclusion that each group had four words. “Oh! So they’re equal!”, Lucy shared.

In PREK2, the focus was fairytales. Miss Kim read a story and each friend got to come up with a word (verb) to fill in the blank within the story. As a group, we talked about fairytales and certain characteristics that fairytales have.
One of the benefits of being 4 and 5 years old is the ability to make up a game. Our friends LOVE making up games but also making up rules in their game. We often hear, “It’s my game and I made up the rules.” This is the definition of power at this age. Majority of the time, children have their own idea of what character they want to be or what animal they want to portray. They may not want to be the dad but the brother instead. Giving children words and phrases to work through these problems is vital to their social development.
I found this Teacher Tom post and it made me chuckle because it is so true. More so, it still happens in adulthood!
So happy Thursday! Hopefully this provides a midday laugh!
