Good Afternoon!

We hit the fourth and final genre during K/PREK1 group today: poetry!

Each member got to choose one poem from the book. We noticed quickly that the poems use a lot of rhyming words! A few children even helped me fill in the blank of a poem with the correct rhyming word.

Before friends rolled up their mats to journal, they had to answer a question specific to them. I gave each child three words that were similar and they had to come up with a fourth word that fit that category. For example, I gave Mack the words pig, horse, and chicken. He said “Those are farm animals! My word is cow!”

K.DA.1: Identify, sort, and classify objects by size, number, and other attributes. Identify objects that do not belong to a particular group and explain the reasoning used.

K.RL.3.1: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g. fiction, nonfiction, fairy-tales, poems).

In PREK2, children had to observe four square picture tiles. They had to choose which square tile didn’t match the rest.

Evie and a few older friends used the sunflower seeds that we removed from the sunflower head yesterday to make animal feeders for outside! Friends used a toilet paper roll, peanut butter, butter knife, and sunflower seeds to make the feeder.

We’re anxious to see what animals visit our feeder!

The rest of our morning was full of stories, puzzles, and art work—the perfect trifecta for this rainy and cold day.

Good Afternoon.

This morning we listened to several songs of all different kinds. We listened to kids music on Pandora, we listened to Fall/Halloween songs and we also listened too and acted out the body movements to, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We sure do love our Dance parties. Smile

While some of our friends decided to keep dancing others of us went into the kitchen area to engage in the moon sand. We scooped, poured and simply just let our hands feel the silky soft texture of the sand.

Good Afternoon and happy first day of Fall.

Now that we will be getting into chillier days, can you please bring in extra warm clothes for your child’s bathroom cubby. Thank you!

We  didn’t let let the rain get us down today, we did many fun things that kept us having a great morning. First we had a dance party, we painted at the easel, we crawled through a tunnel and read stories.

Our dance party was full of body movement and energy.

While painting at the easel, we used fall colors such as red, orange green and yellow to make our creations. They turned out wonderful.

P9223111P9223094P9223099P9223113

Then last but not least our fun time engaging with the tunnel. With this activity we can learn a few different life skills. One, we need to take turns so no-one get hurt, we need to be patient while our friends are taking their turn, and we need to follow simple directions on which way our bodies should be going through the tunnel. We all did a great job and had a ton of fun.

Good Afternoon!

Evie and Mack completed their sign in that revolved around comparison words. They had to identify which group of items had the most/least as well as use gems to answer comparison questions. I had eight gems in my hand. I asked the following questions:

“Take some of the gems and put them in your hand.”

“Take all of the gems and put them into your hand.”

“Now, there should be none in your hand.” (to which they quickly gave me all of the gems back!)

K.NS.9: Use correctly the words for comparison, including: one and many; none, some and all; more and less; most and least; and equal to, more than and less than.

DSCN3169DSCN3163

We used the same gems in K/PREK1 group but in a slightly different way. I put a specific number of gems in the center of the group for each child. They had to answer my question using gems as their manipulative. For example, I put 8 gems in the center of the group. I told Evie to create her own group that had more than 8 gems. She chose to make a gem group of 9 gems.

K.RL.3.1: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g. fiction, nonfiction, fairy-tales, poems).

K.NS.9: Use correctly the words for comparison, including: one and many; none, some and all; more and less; most and least; and equal to, more than and less than.

In PREK2, children used the Montessori beads to explore numbers as well as ways to compare. They discussed more than and less than as well as length.

DSCN3208DSCN3209

We had a big sunflower in our garden area. Miss Annastecia took the sunflower head off and friends were excited to inspect it. A squirrel friend in the backyard has been eating the seeds out of it so we wanted to take it down now so we still had time to look at it!

We came inside shortly before lunch which gave Mack and Daniel more than enough time to transform into…Ninja’s!

They created covers for their masks and easily switched identities!

Lunch– Refried beans and melted shredded cheese on whole wheat tortilla, fresh cantaloupe, and fresh cherry tomatoes/pepper/cucumber.

Good Afternoon.

Today we went outdoors a little earlier than our normal to beat the rain showers. We had a great time climbing, playing ball, running and relaxing looking at the greenery around the play area.

Happy Monday!

Mack, Evie, and the other members of K/PREK1 explored text genres today. For kindergarten sign in, Mack and Evie had to identify the genres of four books. The text genres that we discussed were fiction, nonfiction, fairy-tales, and poetry.

Throughout the week, we will read a book from each genre during group and document it on our chart!

K.RL.3.1: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g. fiction, nonfiction, fairy-tales, poems).

In PREK2, children identified which group was greater than, less than, or equal to when given two groups of items.

What a rollercoaster of a morning! Our power went out due to a transformer blowing in the area. So we headed out a little early and thankfully the rain held off! We are grateful it came back on in time for lunch! Smile

Good Afternoon and Happy Monday! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

We enjoyed coloring with crayons and markers today on a very large piece of paper. We were happy to hear that we could color anywhere on the paper we wanted too!

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week.

This morning a friend was interested in the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Once she got to the Saturday portion of the book,  her words were being used very well to tell teachers what the food items were that she came across. We could hear the excitement in her voice. Smile

Good Afternoon!

During K/PREK1 group, we read two ‘Frog and Toad’ stories. The Frog and Toad series is one of our favorites! Immediately, friends started sharing, “I have Frog and Toad books at my house!”

We looked at the various illustrations  to see what the author may have wrote based on those illustrations.

K.RL.4.1: Describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear.

______________________________________________________________________________________

Mack and Evie used simple geometric shapes to create larger shapes for their kindergarten sign in activity. For example, they had to take six triangles to make a hexagon.

They each were given ten cards that had a problem on it. There were a couple problems that proved to be a little challenging but they used fantastic problem solving skills so they were able to finish the problem with little help.

K.G.4: Compose simple geometric shapes to form larger shapes (e.g., create a rectangle composed of two triangle).

DSCN2871DSCN2885

In PREK2, group members looked at several different illustrations. They came up with examples of what the author may have wrote about the illustrations.

DSCN2932

We spent the majority of the morning at the art table or in the housekeeping area. The outside was calling our names shortly after 10:00—it was absolutely gorgeous!
