Happy Monday and Happy Halloween!
Our three kindergarteners kicked off their Monday by working with singular and plural nouns in sentences. They had to determine if the singular noun made sense in the sentence or if the plural noun belonged.
K.W.6.1a: Nouns/Pronouns- Writing sentences that include singular and/or plural nouns (e.g, dog/dogs, cat/cats)
Our work with singular and plural nouns continued on into K/PREK1 after we read Frankenstein which followed the story of Madeline!
I read each sentence with both options. For example, I read the following two sentences:
1. “You have ten finger on your hands.”
2. “You have ten fingers on your hands.”
Children had to determine which word completed the sentence. When we were done filling in each missing space in the five sentences, we looked at he word BEFORE the noun which often was a number word. We noticed that any number over one added an ‘s’ to the noun while the sentences with ‘a’ or ‘one’ was a singular noun without an ‘s’ at the end.
K.W.6.1a: Nouns/Pronouns- Writing sentences that include singular and/or plural nouns (e.g, dog/dogs, cat/cats)
We spent the morning making homemade vegan pumpkin bread! Most of our friends helped add an ingredient to our mixture. We patiently waited for the bread to cook and everyone loved having it for a special snack this afternoon!
The rest of our day involved indoor activities such as reading and table top explorations. Daniel pretended he was the teacher and had a small group of children he read to!
We hope you have a safe and happy Halloween!
