Good Afternoon!
Kindergarten sign in consisted of children looking at three different item configurations and see how many items were in each group without counting! All three kindergarteners were able to do this by adding the top row and the bottom row together to find the total! “There’s five smiley faces on the top and five on the bottom so there’s 10!” said one kindergartener.
K.NS.6: Recognize sets of 1 to 10 objects in patterned arrangements and tell how many without counting.
In K/PREK1 group, we read ‘Max and the Tag Along Moon’. After we finished the story, we identified the author and talked about where we may be able to find this book in the library. We chatted about the authors last name, which started with a C. Daniel said, “We’ll find it with the C’s since his last name starts with it!”.
We also did another run through of our counting sheet where each friend took a turn counting by 10’s up to 100.
K.1.19: Learn and apply knowledge of alphabetical order (first letter) when using a classroom or school library/media center.

There are so many benefits to a multi-age classroom. Rowan explored the role of ‘helper’ and ‘leader’ today as she helped guide younger peers in several areas of the classroom environment this morning. She was at the art table with several friends, including a three year old peer who was wanting to write ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ on his finished art creation. Rowan excitedly offered to spell ‘dad’ on his creation. Later on in the morning, she and another three year old peer lay looking at a story where she pointed out key events in the story as well as practiced telling the story based on the illustrations.
