Good Afternoon!
Today we got into the science of opposites as we conducted a sink or float experiment. Older friends examined the objects we were testing ahead of time and made “predictions” about what would sink and what would float. Next we tested the objects. Based on our developmental level we either talked about our findings or recoded them ourselves in an “Experimental log”. Last we drew conclusions and talked about anything we learned. Some friends observed that even though some of the objects felt light weight in our hands, they still sank. We noticed that all of the objects with this quality were made of metal. One of our friends observed that the feather floated at first but later it started to sink. She noticed the same phenomenon with the puff ball. We talked about what had changed and after some discussion concluded that the two objects had absorbed some water. This could be easily tested and proven by squeezing the wet puff ball. Solid science!
In the garden today it was finally dry enough to excavate our potatoes. Older friends dug up the potatoes with shovels. Arthur got to have the honorary job of putting the uprooted potatoes into a bucket event though he is a younger friend since he helped find all the shovels for the project.
PREK2: In group today we read the story “The Creature of Habit”. After the story we chose whether the very big creature or the very small creature was our favorite character in the story.
