Good Afternoon!
We want to wish Hannah a big happy 3rd birthday! Thank you for the yummy snack you brought in—we hope you had a fantastic birthday!
We’ve been on the topic of libraries this week in PREK1 group and how librarians categorize books. During sign in, we looked at a specific book from the reading area that was written by Mo Willems. Children signed in under the letter that librarians would use to categorize the book. Later on in group, we identified the author that wrote the book and talked about what section we’d find that book in if we were to go to the library.
K.1.19: Learn and apply knowledge of alphabetical order (first letter) when using a classroom or school library/media center.
This morning our older friend Hannah was talking about troglobites. This is an interest she has had before and that interest has returned. Several friends were wondering what troglobites were and she explained that they are cave dwelling creatures that live in the dark. A book on caves from the science center was brought out and read to a group of interested friends. Since several were very interested in the idea of cave dwelling animals, we decided to build some of our own. We made some earth colored play dough, added some rocks and sticks to help with structural building and got to work. I searched our animal collection to find animals from the cave book. We read that snakes, salamanders, and frogs live at the mouth of caves so we added them. We read that bats and cave crickets live deeper in the caves so we added them too. We had some great imaginative play in our hand made cave ecosystems!
