Happy Monday!
**Reminder: the Pre-Conference Form (yellow paper) is due this Friday, February 7th.
To kick off a new week, we focused on identifying an item that didn’t belong in the group on our PREK1 sign in. On the board, several fruits were displayed as well as the color green. Children were able to identify that green didn’t belong because it wasn’t a fruit!
K.DA.1: Identify, sort, and classify objects by size, number, and other attributes. Identify objects that do not belong to a particular group and explain the reasoning used.
We’ll be diving into text genres this week in PREK1 group and today, we focused on the text genre ‘fiction’. Before we even started reading the book, we looked at the cover and I asked, “By looking at the cover, can you tell what type of book this may be?”. Our oldest friend raised her hand and said, “Fiction! Because carrots aren’t money!”. We identified several reasons why the book is a fiction story as we read it. We made a list on our chart of things that helped us realize that it was a fiction book.
K.RL.3.1: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g. fiction, nonfiction, fairytales, poems).
At our welcome activity this morning we sorted! We chose how and what we wanted to sort. Some sorted by color, others by shape and others by both! We tried different sorting trays deciding which worked best for our chosen method.
Our creative friends were interested in building three dimensional today both using carboard and paper. Ryan made a “gigantic person” using cardboard and tape and Arthur made a “Helmet” using paper with tape. As the kids have been exploring materials, they are starting to be able to plan what they are going to make and then pick a material that will best fit their idea rather than the other way around! Leaps and bounds in creative problem solving!
PREK2: Today we read the story “Hush”. We talked about how words that rhyme in our story, sound alike and create a rhythm like a song. On our board today, we sorted our squares by color. One of our friends suggested that we try sorting by shape tomorrow!
