Good Afternoon!
Everyday during PREK1 group, we complete a calendar activity. Each week, a group member gets to be ‘mat guard’ which gives them two responsibilities. The first responsibility is they have to make sure everyone’s mats are rolled up nicely before they put them away. The second responsibility is crossing off the day on the calendar. We all say the date aloud. So for example, today we said, “Today is Monday, February 17th 2025.”. Before we say the date aloud, I ask questions like, “What number comes after 16?” or “What year are we in?”. These questions are age appropriate and help children understand what calendars are used for and also for myself to authentically gage where children are at developmentally by their answers or understanding.
For sign in today, each group member came up to the board where they signed under their birth month!
K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.
PREK2: In group today we read the story “Leonardo the Terrible Monster”. We each remembered something that happened in the story after the story was done. We made a class list of our recollections. We also practiced rainbow and tire breath. We focused on how slowly we could do each breathing exercise.
