Good Afternoon!
Comparison words on are tap this week for our PREK1 group. Today for sign in, we compared three different fruits depending on their weight. Children were asked to identify the heaviest fruit and write their name under it. Children are comparing things all the time without every realizing it!
K.M.1: Make direct comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.
These kids love snow…..so so much! We were all happy to play in the snow all morning. We made snow balls, ran through the snow, slid down the hill and even made a snowman, until we were exhausted and ready for lunch!
Inside we explored measurement in an open ended way, with plenty of hands-on activities! We used a scale to weigh heavy and light objects. Some of us were able to balance the scale. We also enjoyed a water table filled with cups of different sizes and shapes to explore volume in a developmentally appropriate way. For this age, that means hands-on open exploration of real materials!
PREK2: During group we read the story “Triangle”. We paid attention to the shapes triangle past through as we read. At the end we added a triangle to the small, medium, or big category just like we saw in the story.
Breakfast– Whole wheat toast with peanut butter and fresh pears.
Lunch– Whole wheat pasta with marinara sauce, fresh clementines/pears, and fresh carrots/cucumber/green beans.
PM snack– Whole milk yogurt with graham crackers.
Wee Sprout– Fresh carrots/cucumber/pepper/green beans.
Have a lovely night.
