Good Afternoon!

We focused on addition and subtraction problems this morning for our PREK1 sign in. Children found their name on the board and we looked at their math problem, identifying it as either an addition problem or subtraction problem. We used gem manipulatives to help us find the total to our problem.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real-world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5= 3+2 and 5= 4+1).

This morning we explored movement with our welcome activity.  This group has been interested in moving parts and tunnels this week, plus ramps for many weeks!  We combined those components in this loose parts exploration activity.

Younger kids have begun to join in the building projects at the art center more and more.  Dax made a “jet” and was able to get help problem solving how to tape one of the tubes to his box.  Ryan and Arthur helped with some brainstorming and it was decided that Dax needed a longer piece of tape!

PREK2: Today we read the story “The Color Monster”.  We talked about the “scared” monster and thought about how some of us felt a little scared during the thunderstorms this week.  We also talked about how we were still ok even though we felt scared.  On the board, we did a little math.  We counted how many bugs we we found next to our name.  Then we added one more bug.  We determined how many bugs we had after we added one.  Several kids wanted to try writing the number themselves, so anyone who wanted to tried writing the number after their teacher wrote it.
