Happy Monday!
We kicked off our week by completing PREK1 sign in where children were asked to write a way that we move our bodies. Responses varied from walk to run to fly to twirl! A few children worked with a teacher to spell out their action while other friends kid spelled their word by writing the sounds that they heard.
Science: K.3.2 Investigate that things move in different ways, such as fast, slow, etc.
Later on in PREK1 group, we read ‘Tortoise and Hare’ which is from our MACK collection. Throughout the story, we learn all about the two main characters and how vastly different they are! Tortoise moves his body slowly throughout the day, taking his sweet time to do every single thing while Hare moves fast, fast, fast! An older peer shared, “I’m kind of in between. I can move fast but I can do things slow too!”. We all came to the conclusion that it’s nice when we’re able to find a balance.
We explored how objects move at our welcome activity this morning. Friends used pipes to make a structure. Next they tried putting puff balls or marbles through their creation. Several friends discovered that the heavier marbles moved through the pipes better. Friends tried different shapes and noticed whether the marbles moved easily through the pipes or if the marbles got hung up. Friends experimented with solving these problems by moving their structure to get the balls to move, or making a different shape. Some friends found they could add a T shaped connecter to make the marble come out in the middle of the pope. Kids used creative problem solving, critical thinking and cooperation as they explored these ideas.
Several kids added to their bean journals this morning. Our class observed the changes in the plants since we last looked at them. We found that most of the plants now had three parts. We could see roots, a stem and leaves! Depending on our developmental level, we dictated our observations, or used our kids spelling to sound out the words we wanted to write.
We hope you enjoy a few more pictures from our day!
PREK2: During group today, we read “The Busy Body Book”. We talked as a group about all of the different ways the people in the book moved their bodies. Afterward we came up to the board and picked out favorite way to move!
