Good Afternoon!
Our oldest kids have been on a writing and illustrating streak! We are seeing at least one new book from each of them every day. Today we had a book called “Ten Little Blueberries” and one called “The Day the Dogs Came Home”. Our little writers have been learning about authors and illustrators through this activity. They have been practicing kid spelling, learning about sentence structure, narrative and bringing to life ideas using creative problem solving and executive planning. All this learning seamlessly transpires from emergent curriculum.
During our welcome activity we explored water movement and fine motor development. We used pipes, funnels, tongs, tweezers and pompoms in our large water tray. A couple of friends noticed they had some pompoms stuck in the pipes. It presented the perfect opportunity for some creative problem solving. The kids were offered a few tools they could use to figure out how to get the pompoms out. It’s always better to allow kids to solve as many problems themselves as possible. This helps them build their problem solving skills as well as their self esteem.
We also exercised fine motor development at the light table as friends hung small rings on the branches of a little tree.
We hope you enjoy a few more pictures from our day.
